Following on from my overheating issue and subsequent rough idling which clears at above idle the clatter is still there so looks like it may be more severe than i thought. I will be checking leads/coils/injectors and doing a block test and compression test but anymore than that i think i need to leave to a specialist. Not a good start to TVR ownership.

Being based in West London, the 3 closest and most recommended specialists seem to be Austec, Andy - APM & TVRFIX in Epsom, which one of these would you guys recommended? Ive also heard that Joolz does diagnostic work etc? any contacts, recommendations would be greatly appreciated

Out of those mentioned, there's no contest, get on the 'phone to Andy & APM.

He builds fantastic engines, just ask Mike Saunders, or JonnyW. wink

There may be a bit of a wait as he does tend to get booked up, but that says more about the quality of his work than anything else. yes

I would try one of those head gasket failure testing kits in your coolant. If your overheat brached the gasket, then it may explain pretty shoddy idling.... the clatter could just be as it's meant to be?

I'm *really* sorry to hear of your problems dude, awful luck.

If you do need a rebuild then APM is highly thought of. Builds a great engine with no bull. Great rates.

Didnt know that The Garage did rebuilds. How long has he been doing them? Is it a new thing?

They do clatter, even when warm, its due to the high lift cams.
They do not sound like a jap engine at all.

Has it had a full 12,000 miles service recently?
Could just need a service.

I ended up at Austec due to MOT failure with only 2 days left, but been very happy with the 12,000 service that Russell did for me last November.

With respect Gary, you've never taken your car there to my knowledge, so how would you know what the Garage does?

Adam, since you're just down the road from me, I can pop down in my car to meet you at some point so you can see how noisy my engine is for comparative purposes. The Surrey region of the TVRCC meet at the Black Swan in Ockham (4th Thurs of the month) which is not far from you either if you want to compare against a few Cerbs - Don, Steve (VPower) and I are there regularly.

Steve - apologies if I have put my size 9's in. I dont know what the Garage does hence my original statement (see above). It was a genuine question as I was unaware that he does engine rebuilds. No hidden meaning meant to my statement (and having re-read it I cant see any still).
