Well I picked up another Cerb at the weekend! Thanks to Paul for a speedy and pleasant transaction!
I have had three TVRs before, 2 Cerbs. This time I have bought a late 4.5 Red Rose lightweight. Pretty standard except for Nitrons, close ratio g/box and low ratio final drive.

It was actually my wifes idea that I buy another. She mentioned it on Friday, I looked on-line Fri night, one popped in to the classifieds as I was looking (pretty close to where I live), I mailed immediately, looked on Sat, transferred money late Sat, picked up Sunday!

I had thought about all the other cars I could buy and was happy to spend a lot more but nothing like the prospective of another Cerb seemed to wet my appetite.

That's a nice looking car Gary. All that remains is to rebuild the engine and then sell it wink Hopefully that's all a long way off!

My rebuilds were (with the power of hindsight) not such a big deal. The first one was a broken engine when I bought it (buyer beware) and the second was burning a bit of oil so I decided to rebuild rather than it really needing a rebuild.

How do they compare......

I dont really know the new car yet but I would say it feels better screwed together than the other two. The car feels better finished and of higher quality. The performance feels like it is turned up to 11. My previous two were standard 4.5s with no engine mods. Might be interesting to stick it on some rollers to see what it currently puts out (but am I bothered).
I prefer the interior to the magnolia of the previous two. It feels special and not at all grubby.
The car is pretty quiet - I havent really heard any rattles, squeaks, knocks etc....
The exhaust is a sports exhaust with cats removed. My last one was the same but with cone filters. The last one was stupidly loud. I was worried that this one might be inappropriate in my sleepy little village but actually it is ok. I parked it up last night at about 1030pm and it was ok.
I have a week before I start a new contract down in London so I should be able to give it a good try out this week (although my list of DIY jobs is growing).

I know.... but there is some truth in it! Once I had rebuilt the engines I kinda fell outta love with the previous two, paranoid re engine bills etc...
I think it is a bit like childbirth!

Many congrats...if you're short of an excuse for a drive you could always pop up this way and see how your new purchase compares to your old one now (after a few tweeks!).

Nice looking car thumbup. Will you get this one short inductioned/remapped (I know I would)? The mulberry interior always looks brighter in photos but silver/red is a great colour combo smile congrats on the purchase..

Nice one! If I'm not mistaken this is GerryB's old car. I test drove this at TMS years ago (at Bruntingthorpe smile) and it had no aircon, which put me off. Other than that I thought it looked stunning, one of the best colour combos I had ever seen. It was the first RedRose I had driven (they were rare at the time) and it seemed reasonably quick.

Get it remapped wink

Yeah no aircon. But to be honest the aircon on a TVR is just something else to break and in my experience isnt that reliable or effective much of the time. Open the window and let the cool air in. It wont be great on a 25 degree plus day when I am in a suit but I think that scenario will be rare.

My second Cerbera had the factory close ratio gearbox and I much preferred it. First gear was taller which meant that first gear was useable and would take the car up to 60mph. Second was oustanding for overtaking; hold second gear and the car will run to 100mph before third gear was needed.

The only slight downside was that steep hill-starts required a few more revs than with the standard gearbox.

Aha - that'll be why I needed to give it a few more beans to do a hill start!
Mine also has an extra spring on the accelerator so the pedal is stiff, taking a few drives to really get the foot control totally sorted.
