Hi Guys,

Went to fit my radio tonight and was greeted with a rather unusual connector type in the car. Can you buy adaptors, or do I have to whap my soldering iron out?

Cheers,

Stu

I thought all Cerbs had the standard ISO connector - unless someone ha changed yours.

But you can get adaptors easily; What does yours in the car look like?

Most auto factors sell loads of different adaptors.

Bring the car and the radio along and you should be sorted.

Mine looks a bit weird IMO, never seen an adaptor like it! You are probably correct, a trip to somewhere that will know is probably easiest smile

They cost about €10.00 over here.

Probably similar there.

From having to replace my stereo last year, the connector to the back of the stereo was originally used on Land Rover Defenders between 1902 and 2002 (or something like that) - but in typical fashion, its not a standard pin-out so even if you can find the right adaptor, it wont work. If you search thru the history, there's a pin-out diagram for the stereo... I'm sure I've still got it somewhere if you'd like

I ended up chopping the old lead off and making up a new ISO end, so any future stereo will just drop in (and far less hassle of trying to shoe-horn in extra cables and adaptors)

I've gone with Brian's plan. Ordered an ISO connector off ebay for £4.90 delivered smile - Looking at halfords online they want £13 for the very same, I'm prepared to wait a few days for it to arrive. Wiring I'll just work out from the current pinouts. Definitely better than having a million different harness adaptors in there as there isn't much space + it will cost the same, and future owners will not have to worry either. Why TVR put a crazy connector in there anyway! I guess we'll never know smile

Cheers,

Stu

You were.... it was most defo the plan (our cerb's would be twins with 'classic lights' and SP12's), but I need to take my ladyfriend out tomorrow instead. Dinner was planned to be tonight, but she wanted to move it to tommorrow and I didn't have the cojones to say it wasn't good as I want to go play TVR's biggrin I think she's heard enough about TVR the last week smile

Next month though for sure smile

I wrote it up just after I bought my car but the search doesn't go back that far. Approx Sept 06. From memory it's a landrover part, you have to swapover two leads and trim some plastic tabs.

Found it - Aug 06

OK Quick update. The correct adapter to use is one for a Land Rover defender 8/79+ and Land Rover Discovery 11/89 to 3/94. I got mine from sextons for £12 and it's really easy to remove the centre plastic locking device and pull the pins out to put them in the correct place.

As said this needs modifying as the leads are not in the correct order and small platic bits just need nibbling from it to make it fit. It's quite obvious where.

For the record there are two rows of six pins divided into sets of three. On my cerbera these were

RED Green Grey Grey/Black Green Green/black
Battery Ign Spk FR+ Spk FR- Spk FL+ Spk FL-

Red/White Black Green/black Green/Red Grey/Red Grey/Black
Illum Earth Spk RL- Spk RL+ Spk RR+ Spk RR-
