I think this question has been fielded before but can't seem to find it and sorry if I sound like an idiot but what is to stop someone taking the cerbera shells that are kicking about and putting out a kit car version?

Granted in the middle of a recession where TVR's are coming down in price is not the best time and I would put money on TVR being well and truly a part of history now, so the only way this can suceed in my opinion is as a kit car.

The cerbera is an absolute classic and I would love to see this kept alive in some form or another. There is so much TVR engineering talent out there I'm sure with the right business plan, backing and expertise it could be put out in small numbers.

I hate saying this..... but.....

is that not what most of us are now doing? The famous comment from the grand designs presenter... a kit car in reverse?

I bought a whole load of parts and built a car to my spec, as have all these LS boys. Looks like Mark is doing a similar thing.

Should i have said this????

if you talk about kitcar... so a reproduction.
how much do you think it would cost you to build one?
who do you think would buy it in the next years, specially there you can buy a real cerb for 10-15k?

Isn't like with a classic ferrari, maserati and so on...
you need a Cerb VIN and on the long term i think i does not matter if the cerb has been a cat c, d or not... ofocurse you will see a price difference but nothing like the difference between a real cerb and a reproduction...
So i would not make or buy a repro. the cerb needs to have the Cerb VIN...

Sorry but that is me

To be honest I can't see a 'kit version' being any cheaper than just buying a normal cerb. When you look at the prices of good quality kit cars they are not cheap!

My cerb is going to be sort of a kit car. Every nut and bolt is being removed and the whole thing is being rebuilt but with subtle changes here and there.

you cerb is a cerb... a kit car is not a cerb as long as she does not have a Cerb VIN.
producing costs will be around the same i agree with that

i dont see interesting business here.. sorry but i might be wrong

i do believe that the cerb will be a classic and it should be.
actually she already is...
might be that the prices will go down over the next couple of years but on the longer term they will go up

I think if you buy now a 15k cerb or a 15k VW Golf. you will loose more on the Golf!
But just dont buy the cerb blind! you have to check what you buy

you shouldn't make any more cerbs as us cerb owners want our cars to become rarer and rarer so even more heads are turned in the streets and fathers begin to say comments like "you dont see many of those any more son". we can also hike the prices up and people will be aksing us to sell in order to get a very rare british sports car.

It wont be long until Tvr's are a rare part of history especially the cerb haveing been the 1st in house engine etc. (i know they are part of history now but in years to come it would increase)

A bit off the original topic, but do you really want the prices to 'hike up?? Don't you think its great that you can pick up these cars for whats really now next to nothing, and spend the cash keeping them in good order etc etc.

At current prices the possibility is there to own a few TVR's if people want to, one day i'd love to own the whole fleet! If they went up massivly in price surely the market would change, become collecters items rather than fun toys!

Keep em cheep .... keep em on the road wink
