Hi All,
Picked car up drove ok down m way for hour or so but did notice rev counter was a bit eratic up and down on full throttle, but drove fine, stopped for fuel then it was a git tickover was lumpy, drove like it had a miss on it But only on part throttle, if I give it some throttle it;s fine (apart from rev counter jumping around ?)
so this morn tryed to start is started run 10 secs mil light on cuts out, try to start no way leave it a min or two starts same thing happens smells rich ? after 7 starts each time it runs a bit longer untill it ticks over in the end,

so in nutshell tickover and part throttle feels like a miss full throttle seems fine and rev counter jumps all over the place ??

any Ideas

Definately sounds like big fuse - jumping rev counter is a classic symptom.

Welcome to Cerbera ownership, at least the first problem should be easy (and cheap) to repairlaugh

link up the ecu which is in passenger foootwell behind carpet, undo four screws on silver box with MBE on it. you will need a 9pin serial lead (maplins) to link to a computer, best to use an old computer with a serial port rather than a new one, software availible here http://homepage.ntlworld.com/dave.hinns/ and see if everything is as it should be, this thread will help http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0...

have a look at this tread as it sounds similar to your problem http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0...

don't worry worse things happen at sea, just think of this as a way of finding out more about your new toy biggrin

The fuse is between the alternator and the battery. Its located at the back of the engine, centre, low down. Sometimes difficult to see. It should be under a black cover abt 1.5" x .75".

Sometimes it fractures, or the contacts corrode, and goes high resistance, preventing the battery from charging properly. Then you get symptoms like you've described.

Find it, remove it (its just a metal strip) if its intact then clean the contacts and reconnect.

If its fractured then either replace it or bypass it completely.

Moving rev counter is fairly common on these.

Miss-fire and poor start probably due to badly set-up throttles.

my rev counter still bounces al over the place, i chjanged the big fuse and didn't cure my problem,

it was discussed that the a bouncy rev needle could also be due to a dirty or dodgy crack shaft sensor, i just havent got round to getting mine out yet as its pretty hard and fidly to reach with the dipstick tube in the way.

You could check the spade connector to the rev counter itself. I believe mine had slid forward of the post and had a poor connection. All credit to Matt at Sebring for finding this out.

correct, they don't use vac on the fuel pressure reg, constant fuel pressure on these engines.
