I want to try and put the handbrake back together tonight - It really is a hateful job!

But I cannot for the life of me remember how it goes. Does anyone have a picture to give me some idea?

Cheers,

Mark

That might just do! Stupidly I did not think to look in the manual. Hopefully when I look at it at home I can enlarge the picture. it is the bit that the cable goes into that I can't figure, the rest is pretty straight forward.

Start with the main part of the assembly, there is an arrow on it, this points to the front of the car. I did it with the shoes loaded on to the back plate, you will need a hook to snag the cable and yank it out the upright, Getting that top spring in in/was a two man job, really has some tension on it, then do the bottom adjuster and spring last, HTH.

Mark,

Make sure you get the shoes on the right way as they will only go one way up.
The spinning adjuster goes at the bottom.
The cam device that connects to the cable operates such that when the cam is pulled towards the centre of the car it extends the distance between the shoes. The section with the hook goes in backwards to the way you think it should go. If that makes any sense.

Mark - When you fit the cable to the shoe mechanism, slacken the main cable adjuster(driver side just above and to the front of the diff) otherwise as Brummie says, it's a real pig of a job to hook the cable on.

Got it done last night. I needed to jugle two pairs of pliers to get that top spring on.

Some pictures for future reference.

Mark, are you sure the pivot mech is on the right way around? I've just been changing my handbrake shoes, and if that is the offside hub (rear of car to the left of the pic), then my pivot mech at the top was the other way around. I had a little arrow on the tab which pointed towards the front.

Well I am not 100% but when you pull the cable it pushes the brake pads outwards so I guess it is right?

I guess it could work either way up?!

Mine was the other way around too but as said, it pulls the pivot so it will translate that movement either way.
