Clutch Alignment tool
Discussion
Will be changing the clutch soon on the cerb and as im doing it myself i dont want to be forever trying to align the plates to get the box on.
The T5 box as i understand has a 1" 23 spline shaft and Byker28i had a sawn off shaft from his capri 2.8i.
Cant find any tools here in the uk but came accross this US site which i assum has the same running gear for a Mercury Capri:
Would this work:

Listed as tool type # 3

I did buy a clutch alignment tool from ebay a while back but in the end found it just as easy without using the tool. As they are twin plates and you end up knocking them out of align again putting the box back in.
What I found was the best way was to refit the clutch and align them as best as possible with out being mega fussy. Then refit the bellhousing and bleed it through.
Now fit the gearbox but (I know you said you were doing it alone) but get some one to put their foot on the clutch. This will free up the plates so they are not 'locked' in to place and allow you to locate the shaft through them.
Check out my guide. Its now on various sites including the Clever Trevor site.
