I now have some almost new purple pipes, but I have some numpty questions:-

1) The old ones are squashed up and one or two are almost on top of others ! I presume they should all sit along side each other?

2) The bonnet heat shield has rubbed away in one or two places as it is rubbing against purple pipes. I hope that aligning them properly will resolve this. I bought a couple of the 'mushroom' bonnet rests but there are no holes to push them into on the removable panel. Did later Cerbs do without these mushrooms? What did they use instead (eg the wooden floor stick on chair protector things?)

3) What do people use to secure the pipes. I have metal connectors although they are some sort of squeeze and secure set up rather than the screw tight type. Do people generally use cable ties (at both ends)?

4) My last Cerbs had (APM) scribbled numbers on each pipe. Are they all the same when new and only shaped for each cylinder as they heat and change shape etc?

5) I presume once I have the old ones off it is easy to do the replacement?

Thanks
Gary

later cars just had a strip of velro instead of the mushroom buffer things.

The pipes are 2 different shapes .. the front 4 pipes should all angle forwards and the rear 4 pipes should angle rearwards. If you look at the shape of the pipe where it fastens onto the inlet manifold you will see the subtle difference.

use jubilee clips but dont overtighten the airbox end clips. Only put clips on the inlet manifold ends to start with because you will have to move the pipes around to fit the next one, then when all are fastened at the inlet end go down the airbox ends and fasten those down. You'll see what I mean.

Hi Gary, from my point of view:

1. They should lie flat albeit with some squashing (design feature smile)
2. Mine's a 2000/W and had furry Velcro on the removable panel. No matching Velcro hooks on the bonnet tho, so just to protect the panel paint. I also have mushrooms which I've been meaning to drill holes for..
3. I use jubilee clips on both ends as the oem clips are tricky to put back on. Loosely tighten (if that's not an oxymoron) the airbox ends
4. I expect Andy will have done that to help put them back in the same places as they deform to fit their neighbours smile
5. Should be, but might need some juggling around. Probably the least 'oval' pipes would go at either end.

Will post up a pic of my engine bay with those pipes, looks v nice, not sure how long they keep their colour though smile

Cheers guys - I could add this to my list of jobs for when I convince RIDDS that he ought to come to Peak Park for a weekend.
