1/4 mile performance
Discussion
Whats a good time for a 4.5 over a quarter mile on a average surface say at an airfield? I did 12 runs on saturday at Kirkbride airfield last Sat and I could only manage a 13.2 at 108. The majority of my runs were sub 13.5 with most terminal speeds around 118 not sure what this means though? Traction was a big issue on the day too

13.2 from a 4.5 on a gravelly surface is pretty good, your terminal is in line with running about 410bhp+ but may be high as you would have struggled for traction at the start. On a normal surface such as Santa Pod you'd have ran about 12.7 ish, that's what I ran with about 370bhp and a good start. A strong engined Cerb pushing between 380-410bhp with a good start and quick gear changes should manage between 11.9 and 12.4 secs.

Just for reference, mine and Tanguero's times at the Brighton Speed Trials (with its notoriously slippy surface)last year are:
21 PETER MYLES TVR Cerbera 2.34 104 13.53
47 NICK WHITE TVR Cerbera 2.63 107 13.65
While BCA's dad's times were: 13.02 & 13.71 (2 runs as he was in the 'open class', us novices only get one go
)
with the best run stats being:
104 JEFF ALLAN TVR Cerbera 2.43 109 13.02
Experience/good launch is where its at. Despite having the most power, I was the least experienced. Thats my excuse and Im sticking to it!

I managed 13.51 at North Weaald a week or so ago, only had 4 runs & was on a poor surface, everone moaning about traction.
Was you red lining it before gear change? I only ask this because mine was bleaping at me, so i assume it has a rev indicator. Does anyone know if these are set to any particular limit? I didn't even know it had one until my second run!

^^^ the Bug also isnt as pretty
what we need is a 1002hp cerbera*, Ash, please!!
lol. I heard the bugatti pushes some serious horsepower at the flywheel end and has some major losses before planting a 1000hp at the wheels... can any anorak confirm?

you seen the veyron 3d engine video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cJTQVirrLn4

You know your stuff Jules, I'm running just shy of 420bhp Jules.
they simply won’t wear down... at all! I'm talking 1000 miles to Germany and back 4 laps of the ring a 12 run 1/4mile day with numerous tyre "warm ups" and they've only lost maybe .5 mm if that. I think they are that old they are made of Bakelite

I have shift lights set to where i make my peak power and I was trying to change at this point. Often i was hitting the mil light when changing though. I found i got a better start by avoiding redlining in 1st (too much wheel spin), then short shifting into second and using the torque. Obviously the wheels light up in second when you get towards the top of the rev counter but not as much. I've got a video that i need to upload to youtube which shows the undulations of the surface causing even more traction problems. Hitting bumps was spinning up the rears as well causing a few brown trouser problems

Don't like the sould of the bumps! Would be good to see the vid, mental note... no standing 1/4 miles over speed humps;)
All the talk is of santa pod, i think thats the place to go.

I've got several on a camcorder that I need to rip to digital format. It shows a little puff of smoke at the top of each gear and on the top of every bump All the talk is of santa pod, i think thats the place to go.
I think your right everyone seems to say you can knock .5 of a second off on the surface of santa pod.Your car should be good for high 11s if it's running 420 chesterfield bhp
(couldn't resist, it's almost like the old days in here again). However, you will need a sub 2 second 60ft and will need full throttle changes into 2nd and 3rd.....trust me it's the only way to drive a Cerb
Jules.
ps A day at Santa Pod sounds like a good idea.

I think with new tyres on the back I should be able to give it a hell of a lot more off the line without wasting time on wheel spin. Santa Pods a 4 hour drive for me but if theres going to be a big cerbie day out there I'll travel lodge it
