Hi - pulled my Sat Nav cable from the cigar lighter today. The Radio then turned off.
Now the cigar lighter isnt working but the radio is going on and off - although it seems to help when I push the sat nav cable back in!
The radio doesnt have a perm live as it doesnt hold its memory.
Before I start pulling the stereo out and playing with the cigar lighter wiring I am wondering if anyone can explain how they share any wiring?
thanks
Gary

Check the fuses - they share the same one (at least on my car they do)

Well I took a look - it isnt the fuse.
the internal courtesy lights also aren't working.
The radio doesnt work although it does have another power that allows it to still beep and spew out CDs. Just wont play any sounds or light up.
The cigar lighter doesnt work.
I have noticed that when I press the green lit button to secure lock the doors it glows brightly - but when I push the sat nav plug into the cigar lighter then the light loses its brightness ! So I assume this is related to an earth and probably irrelevant - but strange nonetheless.
Horn works as does everything else (I think!).
Stumped. I guess its time to take cigar lighter apart - anyone know how this is done (did it 6 or 7 yrs ago but forgotten!).

Check you fuses again! All of them.

I have a little Draper fuse testing device that plugs into the fush holder and you put the fuse into the Draper tester to complete the circuit, then plug it into you teast meter to see the amps. (about a £tenner)

Typical symptoms of back feeding power via other wireing.

If that don't work, check the earthing connections, particularly the one up under the dash.

Cheers. My tvr supplied toolkit has a fuse tester. Will try some more fuses. Although I am sure the process of pulling the sat nav cable out may have moved something.

the cigar lighter fuse is Number 8 (from memory) and it isnt blown. It is shared with a few other items , some of which are working.

Number 7 is fine.
The cigar lighter socket is back on all on it's own although intermittent I think!?
The clock is off, as is the radio and the internal courtesy lights. Hmmmm

I'll go for poor earth problem. dial binnacle off, then the screw holding all the earths to the bar in front of you has come out or is loose

I did over 100 miles today (to Halifax and back). Car was fine (roads werent). But I worked out that :-
When sat nav on then no power to radio or clock or courtesy lights.
With sat nav removed then intermittent power to radio and clock (I assume intermittent to clock , I didnt measure) but still no courtesy lights.
If I plug nav in then power to radio stops.
If I switch courtesy light to perm on then radio stops (but no courtesy light).
Will check fuses, wiring and binnacle earths.
