racetech clutch
Discussion
hi all new owner here 4.2 96 model
130 miles and the clutch went. been advised to fit a racetech clutch and also get the flywheel and bell housing machined by racetech(so the new clutch will fit), also fit a new slave cylinder. has anyone gone down this route and/or can you recommend any other way of sorting this problem out.
many thanks
anthony

Probably worth making enquireys as to the availability of raceproved parts - I treid to obtain their clutch a few months ago and found it was currently unavailable pending the release of a new version. I don't know if the new one has yet been released so it is worth checking.
I ended up using a standard clutch + slave seals + lightweight flywheel.

Another owner of the earlier style bellhousing here, Andy at APM changed my clutch only last month, he used the standard AP 4.5 clutch, he said there was enough clearance in the bellhousing on my car for it to not require modification.
From what i gather, not all early bellhousings require modifying.

did you have to have the flywheel machined and also did you have to have a new slave cylinder(i've been told the old slave does not fit the new clutch)From what i gather, not all early bellhousings require modifying.

Just had my clutcxh replaced by STR8SIX on a Cerb S6 band they recommend the standard clutch, over a Cleavor Trevor/Raceprooved (my suggestion).
What was there reason for sugesting this? We use a raceproved clutch in the race car and its brilliant. Also with there light wieght flywheel.Mike

thing is, stock clutches vary in how long they last too, some run for 40k before giving up the ghost, but what abuse did they go through???
too many variables.... there was some discussion stating the fingers were engineered wrong but then a similar setup is used in other make clutches too... god knows mate...
but i do recall one of the indies saying that its a load of bullocks - money making agenda bla bla bla... if the clutch and slave are fitted correctly within tolerance and the system is bled properly - a clutch will last as long as you want ie. rip it loose and reduce its life, take it easy and extend its life... bla bla....
what do I know, I dont make these things...

Twin plate clutch life depends a lot on the driver.
Sit with your foot on the clutch at junctions etc and the second friction disc never really disengages and so wears out.
It's also dependant on where you drive etc.
100,000 on motorways, no problems, 20,000 of town driving and a few trips to "The Pod", goodbye clutch.

thanks for the input guys
had a phone call off the indie yesterday saying there was no clutch fluid in! filled it up and it works fine. he cannot find any leaks anywhere. so i'm going to pick her up today and try her over the next week or so and keep an eye out for leaks and levels.
will keep you updated

Make sure you have break don cover then as it will fail again.
