Evening all..

another relative newbie here.. 2yrs ownership under me belt and not that many major hiccups so far.

i have however laid me hands on the bad boy himself... the cerb 4.5 '98 in starmist chianti. a flying machine if there ever was one.

despite the cars obvious beauty tho.. i decided to change the wheels for the 18" tuscan spiders. Now... i know that you need to shave a little of the rear hubs to get the centres on... i did that. and i know that you need four tuscan fronts... i got them... got them all painted and new tyres on them.. tyres that are near as damnit keeping the rolling circumference the same as the old, and bingo.. the near side front rubs. It just catches the back of the arch as you turn in. Im sure there has been this topic here before and im sure im a numpty for not finding it. Nonetheless.. i cant. Am I the owner of a cerb that just doesnt like spiders ?.. Is there such a thing? or is there another hidden gem i need to know. I read that the steering lock should be inhibited to stop rub on full lock, but this isnt full lock.. at all... like inhibit it this much and itll be like the General Belgrano for a turning circle. (more so)

Any help appreciated. Otherwise offers on a newly sprayed spiders with brand new tyres anyone ?

Is this with the car on the ground or jacked up?

They certainly shouldn't touch at the back of the wheel arch on the front.

Sure you've got all fronts and the cars not had any bodywork/suspension work? I can't think how else it could touch.

the car is on the floor. sitting str8 and true. it has gaz shocks and thats the only work i know off. The drivers side is close but its clear, it is only the passenger side that touches.

how would i know whether they are all tuscan fronts... i mean.. there must be some kinda stamp or code right ? how can i check ?..

ps. go easy.. im a driving a beast but frankly .. im a car bafoon... and anything more than petrol oil and water.. im stumped.

You'll need to check the wheel offsets.

Fronts are 42mm and rears 33mm, this is the distance of the flange on the wheel to the centre line of the wheel.

If you have a rear on the front this will push the wheel further out and could cause the clash condition as it's arc when turning (scrub radius I think it's called) will be increased.

Take off the wheels and measure the distance from the flange to the edge of the rim and see if there is any variation in the distances.

Almost sounds like you have one rear and it's on the front left.

Hi Mark

If you look on the inside of the alloys near the centre hole you should see the word "FRONT" cast into the alloy. Also the numbers should read "8.5Jx18 H2 42"

Simon

Does this mean you have some 17" RL7s you might want to shift?
