my wipers / wash function stopped working at the same time whilst it was raining( back in July ) the wipers stopped halfway across the screen. i am as sure as i can be that it was caused by the wiper motor getting wet . after it dried out , i tested it direct to the battery & it works fine.

i received a replacement 'wiper switching unit' today plugged it in started her up & turned on the wipers - nothing & still no wash function either. i was 100% sure it was the switching unit & now i am not sure what else to check.

any advice would be appreciated.( getting a bit worried now as the MOT is in a couple of weeks ) Doug

I'd have thought it's hardly the ribbon cable if the wipers stopped half way across the screen.

The buttons on the wheel just initate the procedure by sending a signal to the box to bring the wipers on.

Or am I wrong?

Possibly the park switch, which isn't just a park switch. Its built into the motor and is part of the socket that the connector mates with.

Are you sure the motor itself is OK?

thanks for your replies.

i had been using the wipers during heavy rain , parked up started the car up & as they swept across the screen they stopped dead. i thought it would be very odd if both control buttons for the wiper spray & wipers would give up at the same time , so i waited for everything to dry out & connected the wiper motor direct to the battery. someone had very kindly sent me a wiring diagram showing what motor pins to connect , & what they are for. the motor works fine when connected to the battery so i thought it would be the 'wiper switching unit' which i received yesterday & plugged it in ready to go - nothing. its as if a fuse has gone , but its fine. because both wiper & washer functions went together soething must of blown ?

i am trying to run through the problems one at a time ( i have got a few niggles ) but now the MOT is looming i am getting a bit worried. i would be very grateful for advice as to what to check next. many thanks Doug

Did you solve your problem? Could anyone post a picture indicating the control box mentioned in this post?

no i didnt solve the problem. i bought a control box ( that is marked "wiper switching unit " ) plugged it in & to my suprise , still the same. a very kind PH member sent me a wiring diagram & chart , so i could at least test to see if the motor worked when connected the the battery & it does.

i have given up trying to solve it myself & have arranged for someone to hopefully fit a switch for the wiper / washer functions so i can put the car through the MOT due this week - although now i cant select any gears with the engine running , but i can with the engine off .

at least my wipers will work by the end of tommorrow.

the control box is located in the passenger footwell with the main ECU , & heater control box. i am no good at loading photos but can send the wiring diagram if you email me.

best regards, Doug

Hi doug, have similiar problem with mine. wipers work ok although skooshers dont ! Wired pump up to battery and works fine so i reckon it must be the ribbon cable. Does anyone know if there easy to replace ? As far as the gear issue, again mine did that too. Unfortunately my friend, it was my clutch and so replaced slave cylinder and master cylinder aswell, just to be sure. All sorted now. All the best. Derek (Svm )

Have you tried just giving them a nudge? (whilst pressing the button)

I used to have to toot the horn before my wipers would work, it is now cured thanks to securing the loose connection on the ribbon cable, the one that connects behind the lower clock pod. Worth a try?

Have you taken the wipers off the windscreen to see if they move. My motor doesn't have enough grunt to move the wiperblades over a dry windscreen.

thanks very much for your replies. i have had the wipers off the screen & still nothing when the button is pressed & the washer button stopped working at the same time - that why i was so sure it was the switching unit control box. its as if the fuse has gone but i have checked it / changed it & it was ok. the chap didnt turn up today , although says he will come in the morning , hopefully he will find something i missed , if not seperate switches will have to put in for now so at least i can put the car through the MOT.

i am asking about the clutch on a seperate post ! thanks for your help.

regards Doug
