Is anyone able to enlighten me on the way the plastic thing below goes onto the cooling system?

The two main outlets are the one that comes from the aircon box in the drivers wing...

and the outlet that come from above the transmission tunnel...

also of the three smaller outlets I presume one goes to the passenger air vent, one to the drivers side vent and one to the steering wheel vent?

Cheers,

Mark

P.s. Sorry for clogging up the cerb forum with all my questions! paperbag

Hmm, not sure about that, chap. That said my cerb is very early and most likely has a different cooling system.

It looks your 'cold air flow' solenoid flap is part of the aperture to the transmission tunnel connection, mine is different and was an inline box (now replaced with an inline fan to improve cooling...ahhhh..).

Behind the dash though there should be some sort of mixing of the hot and cold air, no? Certainly on my car if I put AC on cold air comes from the dial & face vents... if I put hot air on then hot air comes from both vents.....

If you plumb the AC input (drivers side footwell) into that solenoid flap and straight into that box, and then plum that box to face/wind/dial vents, then there will be no way of getting hot air through the same vents.

I have read somewhere that the windscreen vents are only for hot air, not cold. Maybe two of those small pipes go to face&dial, and the 3rd is plumbed into the hot air input so it can mix in that box. The hot air would then have another pipe direct to windscreen vents.....

I'm not sure if my contiunal guessing necessarily helps you, chap. It's a fun game though, and welcome distraction from PhDing which does my nut in. Good luck. You'll no doubt find I'm talking cobblers again though... but you must consider hot/cold mixing in there too I think smile

Stu you raise a good point about the hot and cold air mixing. I also remember (rightly or wrongly) is that you could have the heater on while cold air was blown from the vent under the sterring wheel. But in order to facilitate this there needs to be seperate circuits for the hot and cold air surely?

no, my car is different. Hot&cold mix and come out of the face/dial vent - you set the fan speeds on the hot/cold dials to get the 'mix' you want. As for the windscreen vents, the flow is so gentle up there I can't really tell, but I do recall someone mentioing hot air only up there in the past.

As I say though, mine is a "pre-production" cerb, so things may be different in my cooling in particular as APM mentioned they did crazyness with the early ones smile

I have aircon and always wondered the same thing can only get hot air or cold air from outside through the windscreen vents all wi tht euse of the hot and cold fans, very efficient. Air con only comes out under the steering wheel and I think under the passenger side? Cant get aircon out on the windscreen?? Hope that helps and would love to know if there is any more I need to know love to learn as still fairly new??

AFAIK

Drivers steering wheel vent and vent under teh dash on teh right side of the driver + the round vent on the passengers left side are cold air.

Dash vents small round holes and 2 large vents on early cars are hot air, along with the 2 round vents on the side of the trans tunnel by your knees.

Apparently there is a setup that mixes the air? But I've not come across that yet...

Hi Mark

I could also pop round tomorrow late morning, if looking under another dash helps?

I can get hot and cold air from all the vents, just depends on which fan is on!

Mine is a late 97 build with the small holes all along top of dash.
Mine has also had the hot air recirculate only mod done.

Hi Steve,

You are more than welcome to pop round, can you remember where I am?

You saying you have a hot air mod has reminded me that mine has a button on the dash that was a mod to do with the heating/cooling. Can't remember what it does though!

I could probably get there about 11:00 but have to head into work about 12:00.

By the way I've jacked up the shocks, so should be able to get over that step on you drive OK this time!
