How much oil does your's use?

Just out of interest, how much oil does your Cerb consume? Be particularly interested in 4.2s.

mines a 4.5 and not used a drop in the 3 months and 1500miles i've owned her!

Mine's a 96 4.2 - used 1/2 litre in 3-4 months and is used daily.

This can vary from car to car. A litre per 1000 miles is generally considered the norm.
Mines uses a lot more per 1000 miles, but a lot of my driving is in town, and not on long journeys. Thicker oil also does more to the litre than the thin stuff.

Half a litre in 1500 miles. Although I don't know the real scenario since it is difficult to read the dip stick.

I'm using a litre every 750 miles or so, but my piston rings are a bit worn and my right foot a bit heavy.

Ex demo 4.2 so had 1600 miles on when i got it in October. Just gone through 6000 this morning and to date have used 3/4 litre. In honesty though i think i may have overfilled slightly through paranoia / poxy dipstick and if thats the case it will always burn the overfill element quicker (so i'm told)

Mine hasn't used a drop since I've had it (1,000 miles) and the previous owner said the same during his 8,000 miles of ownership. Both of us used the car everyday, don't know whether this helps?

I've a '98 4.2 using Mobil 0W - 40.

I've used about 7 litres in 5500 miles. I have done some fairly long journeys (Le Mans and Germany) and I'm addicted to the loud pedal

Speaking to the garage my consumption is a bit high but there is nothing actually wrong with the car. I shall be trying a thicker oil come my 6K service.

That's the same oil as I use, but 7 litres seems high?!

4l of 0w40 in 4,000 miles for me.

Ours does about 1/2 litre every 700 or 800 miles on the thin stuff (it's a late '97 4.2)

It's actually my dad's. He mentioned that he needed some more oil the other day after doing 1500ish miles since getting the Cerb. I don't know exactly how much he has used and nor does he (at least he isn't saying !) so I thought I'd ask so that we can keep an eye on things from now on. I think it has used quite a lot though, and there is no evidence of a leak.
What is the most likely cause of excessive oil consumption?

Not a drop! Previous owner also didnt have to put any oil in. I've been told that the S6 engines use far less than the V8's (infact they're comparible to normal peformance car usage). This would seem to be about right from the previous mails in this thread. AJP = lots
S6 = normal

mine uses between 1-2 litres per 1000 mile with 38000 on the clock, however I am not that concerned as I was told by the garage this is quite normal. Most of the driving is about town I have to say.

Mine's a 4.5 and it uses about 1 litre every 1,500 miles .

Apparently a common reason on higher mileage ones is that the oil starts to drip out round the bottom of the sump. If it gets really bad they have to take the engine out and reseal it which would be a pain in the wallet.

When I heard this I was cacking it, but having monitored it for a while it doesn't seem to be getting any worse (touch wood).

Piston rings is another reason, as Trooper mentioned. I guess you just have to keep pooring the oil in and give it plenty of welly for good luck!
