Driving along last week I heard a snapping of metal noise. Today (and 60 miles later) I thought I`d investigate were it came from as I could hear a rubbing noise coming from the front end.
Look what`s gone from the centre of the front wheel!

Is that a missing wheel stud?

No it's not one of the wheel studs. it's the bolt through the centre of the front wheel

Errr, doesn't that hold the bearing together? In which case is the caliper holding teh wheel onvia the disc?

I'd check that for damage too. You were very very lucky there!

It`s only been back from the garage for just over a week after a service (which took 3 mths!!) The vibration/rubbing that I felt through the steering wheel must of been the disc wobbling in the caliper!

Did the garage do any work in that area?

I`ll be asking tomorrow. All it went in for was a 6k service and to replace the sports pipes back to a standard back box,so I doubt it.

How unusual. Even if the bolt broke (never seen it but seen plenty of stretched ones) then one end would be trapped inside the wheel centre .. is the whole bolt and spacer plates missing then? Vey curious!

The lot has gone! I`m surprised the wheel hasn`t fallen off, as I haven`t been going slow with just getting it back.

I can't see how the wheel end of the bolt and spacer can come out, the outer spacer can't fit back down the splined inner .. I'm assuming it has had a bolt through it at some point in the past as the bearing would last no time at all without some clamp load on it and you'd have all sorts of weird steering/handling/sound issues going on up front.

The fact it took three months to service your car indicates one of two things.
One, your chosen specialist is so snowed under with work it's unreal.
Or, two. The haven't a f'g clue about Cerbs.
They must have had some problems for it to take so long, also, mate, don't mean to sound harsh, but you heard snapping sounds and didn't have it checked instantly? Maybe it all looked fine with no obvious damage, but come on that sound would have had me at defcon 1.
Not wanting to sound harsh, good luck with sorting it all out.

The guy who services the car knows Cerbs inside out and has just taken too much work on. He`s well known on here and when he was finishing mine he stayed at the garage till midnight to sort it!

I didn`t check it straight away because I thought it was something that clouted the underneath. It`s not until I put two and two together that I realised it must of been a snapping of metal.

But fair enough I should of checked sooner :-(
