fitted my oil temp guage this morning from the group buy a while ago, and evrything seemed okay at first, but the temperatuer rose quickly and stayed at maximum!

wired up correctly, wire from sender, and 12v supply from clocks,on the correct terminals, but I`m guessing that the sender is not the right one for the guage, anyone else had problems with this, or is it just me?frown

Just out of interest how did you wire it up as i notice the guage is numbered 1, 2 and 3 but the diagram and instructions refer to the terminals as A, B and C and they do not correspond. i.e. A is 2, B is 3 and C is 1. I think this may be where the problem is?

No problem with mine as supplied, reads 70-90 when warmed up. Must be the sender as the earth return is via the sender body and if thats not connected or poor it reads nothing or low, not fsd.

Good point I when by the location of the terminals from the diagram. Tested it in the footwell first off with a lighter too hehe

just been and checked, its wired as per the diagram showing the back of the guage, so looking at the back, feed from sender is on the left terminal, and 12v on the right terminal.

I had a similar problem with my coolant temp guage, and had to have a resistor put in line to bring the readings to the correct temp, set for accuracy at 90deg, so made me think that the sender may not be right, but if its wired up wrong then even better as its easier to put right!

Sounds like gauge isn't earthed through the sensor correctly.

Does it go to max as soon as you put the ignition on?

no, it gradually increases as the oil warms up, but it sems to be reading double what it should be, when cold it reads 50 deg.

Ah, not an earth fault then. Seems very strange.

Also, how are people earthing the bodies of the sensor out. e.g. Marks one is mounted in a Ali housing supported by 2 rubber pipes. This is not going to have any way of earthing.

Where have you mounted yours Clive?

I`ve driled and taped a hole in the top of the remote filter housing, and screwed it in there, the housing is bolted directly onto the chassis, so earth okay.

Ahh ok, be interesting to see if Marks works. Did you use a 1/8 NPT thread for it?

Yeah it will be hehe

I did not realise the sender needs to be earthed smash

Could I just wrap a wire round the sender housing and earth it on the chassis somewhere?

Yeah could do. I'd put and eyelet on it and use one of the top cover mounting screws to attach it to the body.

Bit more secure.
