Booster seat for 1997 4.2
Discussion
do you need a booster seat? i know this is what the law states but i have a 5 and 7 year old and found that the seat is a perfect fit for them and don't see how or if you would make a booster seat work!! i do use a triangle thingy to make the belt fit better around their necks.
always a tricky one i think with 2+2 sports cars, i have seen child seats for cerberas but these are more for smaller younger childern (3-5).

You will probably struggle to find anything to fit i am affraid.
Unfortunately the law states that a child below 1.35m must be sat in a child restraint, i:e booster seat & this is particulary to raise the child up to a certain height for the lap belt to sit in the right position. The law will not except your plead if you tell them that nothing fits.

Wont expect or accept !!|
I have an 8 yr old and a 10 yr old and they travel in the back without a booster. None will fit. You can always make one but that wont be legal anyhow. The safest thing imho is to travel without one. If the police catch me then so be it - I will plead it was an emergency.

Lets hope the emergency doesn't end up with you rushing your kid to hospital because of the fact that you chose not to fit them in a child restraint.

But a child restraint doesnt fit and the seatbelts fit them very well as is. I think that adding a booster would make the car less safe for them. But at the end of the day I ought to sell the cerb and by an electric safe as houses 4* N Cap rated green as grass boring greenham common stylee motor.
Hey i feel your pain, i really do because i love cerbs & have recently sold my Elise (not because of children by the way).
Sometimes it's really difficult for me because as much as i love "sports" cars, i have to advise people about what the law states & it sucks, but i chose my profession i guess.

you could i suppose by one of these little foam things for the kids to sit on and then take a hacksaw to it until it fits, in theory it is the height that you are looking for and not the width or lenght
if you only had 1 kid are you allowed to put them in the front seat with the booster or is that illegal?

Are your 8 and 10 year old not tall enough? I have a bit of a dilemma as I pick up a Cerb on Saturday (fingers crossed and all that). My son is 135 cm which is fine but my 4 year old daughter is a bit smaller so I need to find a solution for her. We have three booster seats, all of which will go in the RX8 so I'm hoping I can make one of them fit. Failing that I seem to remember there was a recaro seat that would fit (was it the start?).I have an 8 yr old and a 10 yr old and they travel in the back without a booster. None will fit. The letter of the law can say what it likes - it would still take a real live human policeman to look at one's 5-6 year old child with a perfectly fitting seatbelt and insist that you use an obviously less effective solution.
In an analogous situation, I was in the pub a few weeks ago with a chap in a wheelchair, which is clearly a wheeled carriage in the eys of the law. How many cops do you think are likely to arrest him on his way home for being drunk in charge, and then have to stand up in front of a judge and explain their idiotic behaviour?

I agree that he doesn't need a booster seat as the seat belt fits him perfectly as it is, however i am being forced into trying to find a soultion by my lovely ex wife and her new husband Captain Slow, as they say it's the law and that's an end of it and have threatend to shop me to Mr.Plod. Nice one!!
Solution one: TVR made an upholstered plate shaped to fit the rear passenger seat that you could then sit a booster seat on top of, I have one but need it unfortunately but they are around, good luck finding one.
Solution two: Kill your ex and Capt'n slow and bury them under someone you don't likes patio while they are away.

Completely agree with what you are saying but the whole purpose of using booster seats has very little to do with positioning of the diagonal belt as mentioned earlier by somebody else. Its to raise the child up so that the lap belt sits in the same position as it would you or i. We have conducted several tests with dummies on/off booster seats & the lap belt has dug into the stomach area & caused nasty internal injuries when NOT sat on a booster seat.In an analogous situation, I was in the pub a few weeks ago with a chap in a wheelchair, which is clearly a wheeled carriage in the eys of the law. But that's exactly the point. I've got the lap and diagonal belt absolutely perfect for my daughter (admittedly with the addition of a tiny cushion to compensate for the "bucketing" of the seat, so it stays in the right position whether she leans forward or back).
If I were to raise her any higher, the lap belt would be sitting flat across the top of her legs, meaning that:
a) in an accident her belly would be presented with a leading edge of the belt rather spreading the force over an area
b) she's uncomfortable so will inevitably wriggle into an even less safe position (same applies to the "new" diagonal positon, meaning that she'll inevitably end up putting it under her arm).
You've clearly got experience of doing crash tests etc, but have you actually tried children/dummies of different heights in Cerb rear seats? The figure of 1.35m might be right for a more conventional seat arrangement, but as I say my daughter is 1.1m and it's pretty much bob-on for her as is.

Well I;d argue that your the parent, so you decide what is best and safest for your child. The Bolster seat law is designed for normal cars with normal seats designed to seat adults. The Cerbera rear seat can never be described as a 'normal seat FFS, it's a minature version of an adult seat - ie perfectly designed for kids

Really?
Ok so the people who are dedicated to design & develop the safest child restraints for children are wasting our time are we? How can a parent know best when they clearly do not understand what they are talking about with regard to child restraints! Is it ok for a child to sit on mothers lap on passenger seat just because they think its safe?

Don't get your knickers in a twist - it is merely being suggested that the unique size and shape of a Cerbera rear seat may make the very good research done by people such as yourself less than perfectly applicable in this specific case.
I asked before if you had any specific experience of child seats and safety testing in cerberas, and took your silence as a negative. Without trying to come across as rude, have you actually seen what a Cerbera rear seat looks like?

Not the best picture, but the only one I have to hand:

Now that was taken when my little one was about 6-8" shorter than she is now (although using a slightly larger cushion than she does now), and as you can see the diagonal is marginally low even then. If you look carefully, you can see the lap belt, positioned well below her waist level.
Imagine adding a 4-6" booster - where would that leave the belt positions?
