Interesting that people talk about power mapping, but good old mechanical grunt hasn't been snapped up yet, without having to run lean?

Andy is talking 460 BHP to 490+, HELLLOOOO!

If I was doing it again I would go for a 4.7 and see if I could hit the 500 with it, alas my wallet couldn't stand another round of work now biggrin. But I'd love to see someone in the wings do though.

I would imagine that for most of us normal people, a 4.7 rebuild would be considered only if a rebuild was necessary, and that is not a paerticularly common event in normal use.

I'd certainly be interested, but it would require a moderately terminal issue with the engine to get to that decision point..

I think that's pretty much the crux of the matter. If mine went bang, then if it was comparable to a standard rebuild cost wise, then obviously it's the way to go, although with all this malarky over Hagerty not insuring modified cars, it gives us some food for thought.

I guess it would be a lot dearer than one that was having a standard rebuild. I'm in the morebeanz camp on this one.

I think it would be good to know the options for a rebuild as these cars are getting older and at some point most are going to need some serious work.

What I'd like to know are the various costs.

So too rebuild a std 4.5 back to std 4.5, new pistons, balanced and lots of other stuff I have no idea about.

Then is there a better spec for a 4.5? Lighter pistons etc?

Where would a 4.7 fit in with that cost wise? If the engine is completely stripped , is it just a case of increasing the bore a little and bunging some bigger pistons in? Or is there a lot more to it?

Cheers

I think it would be easier to increase the stroke. I'm sure Andy will be along soon to explain whats involved.

If I have understood current prices well enough, a "normal" rebuild is probably £6k or so?

I imagine that quite a few people would pay an extra £1-2k on "better" components and lightening/polishing/balancing, especially if some reference to reliability is made.

The question is what the premium over that would be for the extra 200cc.

Personally, I would think that any significant amount over around £9k would mean most people would stay ordinary, or worse go LS transplant.

The gamble is pitching the price to get maximum volume with a sensible return to Andy.

My experience of APM rebuilds are that they are very good value. So I suspect that an APM 4.7 build might be good value compared to other places 4.5 rebuilds.

An S6 upgrade to 4.3 litres at TVR Power is a tad over 8 grand, so I would guess that a 4.7 litre V8 would have to be around GBP 10,000 if you get all the upgraded parts that the S6 gets.

I suspect its much less £s than that...

Being one of the few lucky people to expeience on of these engines WOW!

So much quicker than a 4.5. Also so much more driveability due to the extra torque they produce.

Joo saw mine on the rollers and even he was suprised.

Yep I was offered a 4.7 engine from Andy for less than that, and that was a complete engine leaving me to sell my own on - that would have made it a pretty reasonable prospect all in and far better than waiting till mine needed rebuilding into a 4.7. However as it seems Jonny has now also has a 4.7 then I am guessing he has snapped it up. Bugger hehe
