Is anyone running R888's as an everyday road tyre?

if so what are they like in moist/wet conditions? or should I bump up the life insurance for even considering them this time of year?

cheers guys

dangerous in standing water and there was an issue reported on here a while ago about not using them below 0 deg due to the rubber splitting or something ok in damp excellent dry

Yes,

Been using them every day for about 9 months.

Seem fine, but never really give it any beans in the wet anyway.

Haven't lost any traction ever in 9 months, but they seem to be wearing a bit quicker than my Eagle F1s did.

Cheers

Nickccc was using them to great effect at Spa in the wet last week, without any problems

Brilliant tyre, driven in absolute stair rods at Spa and they gripped OK, in the dry they are the excellent.

I've been using R888 for years now, only problem is standing water and very cold conditions.

Loads of grip even when they become illegal, you can run em down to near slicks for track days.

They don't last long (legal wise) which is a pain,

Is there any truth in the rumour they may be made illegal for road use?

You may 'think' they are OK in the wet, but the truth is they're a tyre designed for fast track use in warm dry consitions. When winter comes and you've got wet salty roads and temperatures approaching zero, be very careful.

yes new legislation coming into effect Nov 2012, reported in the August edition of EVO (p20).

Basically the nanny state are banning any road legal 'track' based tyre furious

How on earth are they going to distinguish between a road legal track day tyre and a high performance tyre? Surely at some point the characteristics converge?

The Sheriff of Nottingham and his bastids will probably introduce some form of extra road tax for cars with performance tyres next wobble
