Low Water Temperature
Discussion
During the cooler weather it is quiet normall for the engine to struggle to get above 70 deg if you are on motorways ,dual carrigeways etc. Around town it will heat up if you are in traffic to 90 deg when the fans should start to kick in.
I am also new to Cerbs but have owned a Tuscan and today when I was on the motorway I don't think It got much above 70deg although I didn'y keep my eye on it all the time but I keep an eye on temp during warm up routine.
I can't coment wether it is doing any harm but I doubt it.
Better informed than me will be along shortly....

Mine does the same, on a warm day it sits on the motorway at 80 celcius, 90 in traffic rising to 95 before that fans bring it back down.
Gauges are renouned for being inaccurate, what is the difference in oil pressure at tick over between when it reads 70 and when cold, i.e. is the oil getting hot and the pressure droping a bit at tick over does the mechanical clatter of the cold engine subside?

Personally I treat all probs as urgent as I dont enjoy driving mine when it isnt all sorted plus if you dont know the cause of the problem then how do you know if delaying fixing is or isnt a risk.... IMHO
Worth getting it checked but I would not say it is urgent, just don't spank it till you find out if the temp is realy low or if the guage is wrong.FarmyardPants said:
The minimum temp is dictated by the thermostat, which should open/close at 82 degC. If it takes a long time to warm up and/or has a steady state temp below that, it could be that your stat is stuck open, or missing.

Also, get a laptop plugged in and see what the REAL temp is when driving along.
As as been said, in cold weather the car's do struggle to get warm. Don;t worry about the 'Bag of nails' engine sound when it's cold, that's the Cerb's sophisticated way of telling you NOT to hammer it until it's warm :-)
First thing I do when I have a new car is to get an oil and filter change done, get that done asap.
For reference here's what my dials read, taken after about 2 hours of motorway driving on a warm sunny Easter weekend - so I guess it's a pretty standard reference to refer to.

link it up to a laptop or desk top computer set up on drive (my laptop hasn't got a serial port) and see what the actual temp is, using the dash gauge is a bit like pinning the tail on a donkey they very rarely give an acruate reading and more like a rough guide, bit like a british weather report
also when you link up to a laptop, check inside the ECU and see if its had a cooling chip fitted quite a common and very good upgrade, this would keep your temp down to about 82-85.
it might be nothing to worry about but i would still investigate the problem just in case!

WOW! Never had oil pressure that high.At that rpm and speed mine will be at 50lb. Even when running warm on very hot days it will never drop below 30lb.First thing I do when I have a new car is to get an oil and filter change done, get that done asap.

Before anyone says rebuild. It has always been given a clean bill of health by every specialist ive taken it to.

Can I fit a cooling chip to a car that has been set up on a RR ?
Yes and no. You need to have your chip/map copied and the cooling mod applied (eg by Joo aka spitfire4v8). If you simply fit a cooling chip it will have the standard map so you'll lose the map from the RR.D

Quick sanity check chaps. Is it just me or does your water temp not drop down to near 75-70 when sustained cruising at high speed in the cold, summer yes its around 80-90 and up to 90ish in traffic. The oil temp stays up around the 60-70 mark regardless in the cold once warmed up and 70-80 in the summer
