I know this will have been posted before but as the PH search engine is totally b
ks then can someone tell me what the widest tyre is I can get on the front and rear of a 2001 4.5 cerb.
The wheels are the 18" inch spiders.
The current tyres are 255 35 18 rear and 225 35 18 front
I want to get some trackday tyres R888 or similiar. Does anyone have experience on the Cerb on what track tyre works well on this car.

R888's are the best performing B list tyre at present. I won the TVRCC speed championship last year and this year using them. They are very grippy, have good stiff side walls and are nice and predictable at the limit.
You can go soft or super soft with corresponding levels of grip depending on the tyre sizes. The list below are the sizes, compound and ref nos from Toyo.
225/40 ZR18 92Y GG 2359310
225/40 ZR18 92W SG 2359301
235/40 ZR18 91Y GG 2359800
245/40 ZR18 93Y GG 2360900
275/40 ZR18 99W GG 2362600
255/35 ZR18 94Y GG 2389209
265/35 ZR18 97Y GG 2390100
275/35 ZR18 99Y GG 2390400
285/30 ZR18 97Y GG 2402990
295/30 ZR18 98Y GG 2403010
315/30 ZR18 98Y GG 2403100
335/30 ZR18 102YGG 2403300
Unless you are really serious about out and out grip i would not mix the GG (soft)and SG (super soft) compounds as it will affect noticeably the front/rear grip and balance.
I run 17's with 235's front and 255's rear which is the best grip combination to date.
Oh - the super soft can overheat very fast if your really push it on a track - I can melt mine in less than 2 laps of Goodwood! so on balance the SG's are probably best for track day fun.

You may also have clearance problems if you are not using spiders and try to use 235/40 (on an 18" wheel) or anything with a bigger diameter than this. You might get away with this by using spiders as the rim is too wide and will 'stretch' the sidewall (although this brings its own problems).
