strange noises coming from my cerbera
Discussion
hi chaps, it just like to pick some brains if i may..
i have a 4.2 cerbera and its making an odd noise..
now and then it makes a quiet noise not unlike a squeeky wiper blade or fan belt or even a tyre rubbing on the wheel arch.. some times i think i can feel it through the steering rack too.
its none of these and ive checked all the obvious things..
it happens when im moving or idle, in gear or with my clutch fully pressed. i cant even find a pattern to it. i even thought it could be my heater fan but it wasnt..
i took it into austec for a health check but they didnt even notice it and told me not to worry..
its driving me nuts..
can anyone help??
thanks

Is it like an intermittent chirping noise that varies with engine speed? If so you could check the shaft that drives the alternator. Mine got worse/louder so took it to APM and by the time I got there the alternator belt was shredded and the alt drive pulley was falling off! Engine out to fix it..i have a 4.2 cerbera and its making an odd noise..

Try a length of rubber hose as a makeshift stethoscope to try and locate the sound, or see if the shaft or pulley is loose (it's in the valley at the front). Just a thought...
Edit: I only dropped it off Monday night and it's already fixed and engine back in. Thanks Andy

Did you get a 4.7 rebuild whilst it was out .....!??
hehe, no it'd take more than that
. It did sound rather terminal and thoughts of gudgeon pins were keeping me awake at night but thankfully it was relatively minor. But if/when the engine needs a rebuild I'll be tempted to go 4.7. Hopefully the jury will have come to a verdict on the inlet manifolds by then
