Is it just me, or are prices sneaking back up again??
Discussion
Yeah you can still get some cerbs for low price, but at what long term expense. I shoul dkno wmore than most what a new £10K engine does to the bank balance! But of late I am starting to notice a sneak up in values of the cars that are out there for sale. There also seem to be less of them. Or is thi sjust me?
How long before we own quite rare cars? Not many left already and they aint making any more??
Food for thought or just pie in the sky?
Cheers

Oh, i do hope so. I am in it for the long haul and am hoping that the kids who were unable to afford their dream car at the age of say 18, will lust after one in another ten years or so. This is the reason i bought an E-type, although i had my snoty nose pressed up against an E-type window at a younger age. But this is what makes a desirable classic car. There are now probably only 500 left, so let's hope they become sort after. I paid £26k for mine, who knows maybe in the not to distant future it will be worth the same and hopefully a lot more.
Can only be good news for us owners. When I blew my engine and spent a wad of cash and time on getting it right I knew I would be in this for the long term. I have thought on numerous ocassions about trading my car on for something different, but just cant bring myself to do it. Even though I hardly drive it these days! I reckon the only way is up!!
By the way, it was me on Turbosport. Full new engine and resto work done about 18 months ago, still not even ran in yet!! Going to get a ll th einterior redone next. Its definately a keeper then!
How many Cerbs are left exactly then??
Cheers

I was amazed when I saw that figure in the Classic Car mag feature a week or so ago. I'm not sure how accurate it is - a few will be living abroad too I guess.
There don't appear to be too many 4.5s up for grabs at the moment. I can also remember looking on here a few years ago too and there used to be several pages of Cerbs.
I'm hoping to be in it for the long term too. Have never bought a car to make money on but if I do have to sell hopefully I won't lose too much on it.

anyone know the official build numbers, how many 4.5's, 4.2's and speed six's?
No one really knows, but the total number of chassis leaving Blackpool was said to be about 2000.The end of my VIN number (Speed 6) is 001642 which for a 2001 car would fit with the above estimate.
Does anyone know the VIN number of the white 'last Cerb' sold by closed bids?
My engine number is 4001876, the last four figures of which would presumably include all 4 litre speed 6's in Tuscan Mk1's and Cerbs to that point.
Given the number of eejits that used to proudly post pictures of their trashed Cerberas on this web-site each winter, I would say less than 500 in the UK now would be about right. The DVLA of course could tell us ... but they won't.
There are two 4.2's for sale in Australia at the moment (one in SA and one in WA), though I think there are only about half a dozen in total over here in all the States and territories.

Before 2006, each Christmas would see at least 50 Cerbs for sale on PH.
Now for the last 2 years we've seen seen less than 30. Either people aren't selling or the numbers of cars has dropped significantly.
Two figures are often quoted, 1996 and just under 1500. The trouble is that the records were a little sketchy by all accounts. Now for the last 2 years we've seen seen less than 30. Either people aren't selling or the numbers of cars has dropped significantly.
But, look back to see how many are written off each year and how many are on the owners wiki thing. 400 left isn't a bad guess.

I did hear on pistonheads some time ago the figure of 450, but that was some time ago. That figure was for the total of all variants. The total production numbers i have heard on here mentioned many times by people far more knowledgeable then me is 1996. When you consider the total number of E-types of all models was 72,507 and that they are'nt seen that often, that makes the cerbera a very rare beast indeed. I have recently sold my Jag XKSS rep. There were only 17 real ones made and 50 replicas, now thats a rare car and would explain why it sold in one day after being advertised on the pistonheads web site. Six people from Europe were trying to buy it but in the end it stayed in good ol blighty.

how much did it go for if you dont mind me asking TVR supplied NZ land transport with documentation on total production numbers in order to have imported TVR's exempted from frontal impact regulations. Numbers total 1490 Cerbera's. However do you think that 2/3rds of all cars have been destroyed? I'd think it's more likely that less than half have and a good percentage are now being stored/repaired. So a total of 800 cars remain? Say 200 of which have been distributed around the world... 600 in old blighty?
I've been sitting on the sidelines in regards to purchase for some time. (just purchased a 4.5 lw) My emotive evaluation would tend to concur with considerably less cars on the market, but if anything the number of cars in the middle / low market seems to have been strengthened and the upper end pricing considerably reduced.

Forgot to say, asking prices for Cerbs on www.carsforsale.com.au are currently are A$75 - 90k.
With the pound at the bottom of the toilet (1=A$1.80), that makes the total costs of my personal import (less than 7k Sterling) look like a very good idea as the car would only fetch 15k pounds tops in the current UK economic climate.
At last some kind of financial win...
