Good morning all, (Thanks for the tip Ireland), just removed the wiper motor last night and discovered the wiper gearbox nylon gear wrecked. The motor is listed as a mini,s but suggests the gearbox is'nt, so the advise is to use the gearbox from your old wiper motor. Well this isnt an option! Anyone found a replacement gearing, or can I get a later Bosch type to fit? I guess the wiper motor has worked overtime this last week or two!

If you find an alternative let us all know. It always annoys me that the wiper motor is essentially identical to an old mini's, and you can buy then for under £50. But because it's for a TVR everyone charges you £250.00....grrrr.

Essentially identical, no....The magnet housing, (not the magnets and clips that are used to hold them in) 2 bearings/holders and 2 washers and circlips are the same ...it ends there. Adrian@

...well It's still an old school, Lucas Wiper motor. What is so special that makes it £200 more?

Aaah - I notice your a 'TVR Specialist parts Supplier', now your explanation is making sense biggrin.

The Cerbera wiper assembly is definitely not a standard Lucas unit. I spoke to the manufacturer. Both the motor unit and gearbox are bespoke. Might have been used on maybe one ot two other vehicles.

Motor is more powerful and gearbox has a wider swing. The manufacturer won't make anymore because there is no demand. If you are lucky you might find one at a breaker. If you do, chances are it will have already suffered from corrosion and wear.

From recollection Adrian does a refurb and upgrade service.

About 2 years ago I made the mistake of buying a new Wiper motor that was specced for a Mini. But couldn't use it because the gearing was different, and the gear housing was slightly different so I couldn't switch the gearing over.
But I took it apart to have a look.
The park switch is identical.
The Motor, magnets and windings looked identical.
The Power ratings were identical (According to the Spec sheet)
The connector plugs were identical
The size was identical.

So whilst the Cerb wiper motor may be deemed 'bespoke' it is definitely based on the old mini Wiper motor, and for the life of me I can't see why it costs £200 more than a mini Wiper motor.

It reminds me of an event years ago before supermarkets were open 24 hrs a day. I went to the local, errm 'corner shop' to buy a jar of coffee. "4 pound!!" I exclaimed in horror "they only cost 2 quid at Tesco's!" - The shopkeeper looked at me and with a little smile he said "Ah yes sir, but they are closed".

Maybe the reason for the expensive Wiper motors is similar.

I notice that whilst a new one is under £50, bizarrely a reconditioned Mk 1 Wiper motor is £117. Still cheaper than £250, so it may well be worth while contacting these people and seeing if they can refurb a Cerb one, at least that way we may get a definitive answer as to wether thay are the same or not.

So, what you saying here is that the motor is different ....
Adrian@
MK1 minis have a square magnet housing...and are TOTALLY a different unit.

Yes Adrian slightly different - But curious as to why it's £200 different?

I don't think these have been made since 1999....and production runs are so much cheaper than bespoke units, I think that mini ones are still made in the 100's a day, whilst the TVR bear a visual similarity (they are totally different) the retail costs are for the retailers to comment on.

If anyone can make a Cerbera wiper assembly out of mini unit I'll have 5! Like I said, I spoke directly to the manufacturer. They were a one off design (including a few off the shelf components like park switch) and are no longer manufactured. I looked at the cost of refurbing the whole unit including windings etc, £200 would have been cheap! The main issues are the power rating and gearing.

Just spoken to LAP and they don't do them anymore mad

My wiper motor is not too bad but the gear is knackered and I can't get a spare frown

don't suppose anyone has a spare gear/motor that has teeth all round?

My wiper motor burnt out, one day before I was due to go on the wet grip session down at Rockingham in August. Great timing! RaceProved managed to sort a temporary repair the morning I drove down to Rockingham at absolutely no notice whatsoever (top guys), then when I'd done the wet grip day (with functioning wipers) I got them to fit a new one, from memory they needed to sent the old part off for refurbishment as part of the "deal". If you like I can find out how much and where from (I am working away therefore can't look at my receipt).

Just picked up on this. The wiper gearbox is from a series 3 Jaguar XJ6. I paid £30 for mine from a jag breakers when mine packed up.

The series 3 unit is a 16 watt unit (TVR's are 29W), with a park switch that has an integral brush set (no longer available)this screws into the main casing (rather than clips onto the casing) the gearset/armature are suited to the 16w and are of a different in design. Adrian@

From his post i was thinking he was refering to the "wheel boxes" and nylon teeth which are located under the spindles. These wear and give the same impression that a wiper motor has packed up. Its these parts that are from a jag XJ6.
