My Cerbera seems quite bumpy, i dunno if its the roads or the car... I would;nt like to drive it anywhere over 80mph it seems to wonder on the road if it hiys abump it wants to go els where than in a straight line...

All the bushes and all the steering is stock and i can't find fault with it. It also has standered shocks and springs..

I'm looking for a fine medium that will cruise over the great british roads with ease.... not buming around the road..

Are new shocks the answer or is something else wrong... tracking looks all fine...

Jack

Surpose to say Bumps!!!

If, like me, you have limited mechanical knowledge, I would take it to your local tvr service guy for a look over before spending out on new parts. However, if you do have money burning a hole in your pocket then a new set of shocks would be a good improvement as your originals are probably a little tired now.

Good Luck.

Fronts and rears are Bridgestone Ponenza S-02
Fronts are 225/45 zr 16
Rears are 245/45 zr 16

All the suspention is in bits looking for duff bushes and also painting abit of rust on the wishbones and chassis...
Only thing i can see wrong are the shacks are still standerd on her... they seem hard on the car..... Just wondering if the dampers are knackered...

The ride was quite hard on my car when I first bought it - the original springs had sagged. I replaced the springs and it was much improved. However I'm guessing it will be difficult to spot any sag if you are jacked-up painting wishbones at the moment.

yer pritty much impossible to tell really at the moment...

Do aftermarket shocks take the car to a whole new level of driveabilty???? Can i justify spending £700 on a set of coilover to improve the ride!!!

^^^ Do this first - it is impossible to tell if the shocks need changing untill you have it all adjusted right.

Forgot one, Steering UJ's!

All of them should cost no more than £150 if you do the work yourself.

Tyre pressures are all fine, front drag link bush seems fine... no movement in it at all.
tracking i will have to get it checked but tyre wear is fine...

I've changed the top and bottom ball joints on the o/s due to the rubbers being split... They had no movement i them tho.

Check the ARB as well.
I put Powerflex ARB bushes in earlier in the year and rose jointed drop links

On bumpy corners it became a nightmare of hopping and skipping. I thought it was the drop links binding - even though I had checked for binding at full travel when I fitted them.

Im in the process of replacing the suspension bushes and whilst dismantling I found the ARB had seized solid in the bushes. I couldn't move it by hand at all. Its been removed cleaned and greased. But when refitted although I can now move it by hand its damn stiff. Far too much of an additional spring.

So at the moment I'm blaming the leaping about in bumpy corners on the ARB.

Anyone got any tips for freeing up the ARB in Poweflex bushes? I've tried spacing the plate out with washers but makes no difference - still very stiff.

When dismattling the front suspention i found everything to be tight to move around.. As tho the bolts where so sight it was nipping up on the rubber bushes and making them twist so you would get bouncy feel to the whole suspention.Say if you pushed the suspention down with no shocker on it would bounce back up on the rubbers.... hard to explain really and something i'm going to look at when i put it all back together....

i'll look into the ARB and drop links.

I replaced all my bushings with PowerFlex ones (not sure if you can get them right now after the fire) and also replaced all the bolts and it transformed the handling of mine.

ARB bushes come in 22 and 25mm sizes - 22mm was standard, 25mm was for the 'Sport' ARB, so it may be possible that you have a 25mm ARB with the standard 22mm bushes.

I think compared to a "normal" car, they are all like that sir, and other people in the know have driven my car, and said thats how they are. This is why i am trying to get mine to drive like a "normal" car. On bumpy roads they are simply well... a handful.

Yes its 25mm but they are 25mm bushes.

I can't push the bushes into the cutout. I have to fit the chassis plate and bolt it up to force them in.
So I'm thinking it may be the thickness of the welds around the cutout in the chassis rail but I'm not too keen on grinding them down smile

I may try trimming the bushes where they touch the welds to relieve the pressure a bit.

How old are those SO-2 tyres?

I had them on the front when I got my car, but they were too old and hard, although they had loads of tread.
Changed to Toyo and much better!

Changed to Gaz-Golds and set too hard to start with, soften up to improve.

Also changed the toe-out to toe-in and this was the biggest improvement in straight line stability on the gas!

Fitted polybushes to front and yet again an improvement. 25mm ARB on mine, OK with correct bushes.

Going to change rear bushes over the winter, so I can geo the rear correctly at the same time.
Which I think is also affecting my straight line stability.
