One of the things on my list to do this winter is have my gearbox rebuilt as she skips out of 2nd sometimes, and has trouble locating, and 3rd is now starting to do the same, with exhaust and heatsheild off is it just a matter of removing the ring of bolts holding it in and droping it out (being TVR this does seem to be a little wishful thinking)

And who's best to have it rebuilt? And has anyone done there own? I have seen kits to do your own full rebuild (about £250) and would be a nice challenge providing I'm not going to ruin my gearbox!!
Im an engine and airframe technician for the RAF so I'm handy with a spanner, but somethings are best left to the pro's....

Any help either way is appreciated

Here's a link to an online workshop manual.

This will help you with the removal procedure at least.

it will be fairly easy if you have the right tolls and notice things that are wornout.. if not dont bother get it sent away.
its less hassle and you have the garentee it will fine when its all back together.

nothing worse than putting it all together and finding you still have a gear that jumps out!

I think I'm going to have a go in the next few months, I love a challenge! Seen a rebuild kit on Ebay for around £250

Not that i've done one but i'd imagine that if you knew your way around a tool box fairly well (and obviously had somewhere to do it) it shouldn't be too much of a problem. There is enough knowlage and help on here me thinks to get you through it if you decide to undertake it your self.

I am just having my TKO 600 Tremec rebuilt at Olton transmissions, i am having a new 3rd gear syncro put in, although it turns out this is not the problem when they stripped it, so i have had to wait for the upgrade bronze shifter pads to come from the States..(another story), but to strip and rebuild around £250, he was doing a Cossie box when i dropped mine off, so basically the same as yours. I would rather leave it to experience for that money..

I assume that's plus parts?

Anyone had experience of the CR gearsets that are available for the T5?

Don't know whether to go that route or a diff change. scratchchin

Looking like new cogs is a cheaper option.

I don't need top end but need acceleration. Only ever on full chat on Levants at G'wood.

Anyone got a knackered T5 they want to flog CHEAP?

Yes, plus bits. I have dropped my upgrade parts in this morning, so hoping to refit the box and also fit the bump steer kit while at it this week.

I'm having problems with 5th gear, Nickccc has had 5th gear break under load. He has gone for the T5 CR gear set and is well pleased with results, see discussion here
