Just changed mine and fits and does the job well so far. Also had to get a Ctek trickle charger as it is, I think, a gel battery. It is a Banner Ban50300 12v 69ah 520a. From Motor-serv Milton Keynes. Thought it may help if anyone looking.

Colin

Did the new battery sort out you other problems or is it still going to Kerridges?

Agreed Phil. Ctek, doing a grand job in there :-) It does switch from the maintenance light, to the charging light at shortish intervals, which I imagine shows how much is being drained.

Hi Andy - no didn't get to Kerridges as I got in and pushed the starter, and just a got rattle, rattle. I'd overcooked the old battery which probably hasn't been changed in years and I should have got the set up I've just purchased when I bought the car really. A tip for any new owners. I did take it for a run today and although the rev light was out to start, it came on and stayed on after about 15-20 minutes. So a trip to Kerridges probably still in order at some point. :-( Edited to say that I still had a good trip around the area and back home. Oh and the Nitrons need to be softened a bit for all round driving. Far to hard on the B roads - which is where much enjoyment to be had.

I've recently just bought a Red Top, which has been great. I'm interested in the Ctek trickle charger though, which one is the one to get?

Cheers

Hi Dean,

XS 800 is the one I purchased. About 39.99. Though it looks like you can get is £10 cheaper from their site. Oh dear. Foiled again.

Looks like I may have bought the wrong one :-(. XS 3600 looks more suitable. Still it seems to be ok.

I gather you're talking about an Optima? If so then you need a charger with specific functions. Standard chargers will destroy an optima in short order.

I've written an email to them with some suggestions and the asking whether the Ctek is suitable.

I'd be a little careful with something that charges at 0.8A - if you look it's ok for maintenance, but is under capacity for charging. I'd suggest the 3600 is better suited to car batteries from its specs.

Yes I'd agree. It's a shame the guy didn't tell me that in the shop. I'll keep it until blows up :-) Seems to be on maintenance most of the time anyway.

I'm sure you'll be fine if the battery is kept topped up all the time.
