Looks like I will be back in the fold again - in the process of sorting out a deal with this car:

Yep - it is one that I believe was in a poor state of health. sold for £10K ish a year ago. Has now appeared in what I assume is better condition a year later.

thinking as I am going along - has anyone had chassis surgery and managed to stop the rot succesfully?
The chap selling is Rich Simms, he used to work for Clarkes Tvr - Steet Tvr and then Nick whales.
this is what I got back:
Varoius jobs done, both front wings and read wings painted to 100% standard, Full fluid change engine, gearbox, diff, brake fluid, antifreeze etc, All alloys refirbished, Rear discs skimmed in and out, Clutch seals replaced, 1000 mile only clutch fitted as i had it here as a spare not that it was slipping anyway but just a future precaution, New oil cooler due to leak, Alloy radiator fitted, Complete interior/exterior valet, engine tune and set up, fully water leak tested, Re-wax oiled underneather including top and bottom arms...No heavy rust present anyway due to garaged for most of its life i think. Many other bits and pieces to make it a nice machine again. No present mechanical issues to tend to and the engine requires no shimming and sounds sweet

skimming disc's on a car capable of almost 200 mph, doesn't sound like the best idea!!

seems a bit odd that the previous owner reckons the chassis is poor and that the new owner has waxoiled it, very easy way of making the chassis look better than it actually is. take a screw driver with you and have a good poke arond the outside corners of the outeriggers, don't be shy to give it a good poke!

forgot to say, if he's looking to make good business get him to chuck in the next service for free as part of the deal, he'll know then that he will be seeing you again and you could save yourself around £500

my biggest worry is the chassis, this is what I had back from the last owner:
yes it was the chassis - rotted through on the drivers side by the exhaust manifold i had it repaired by a local company who restores classic cars .

Feeling like letting this one go now

Think Dannys car post RR came in at 391 bhp which is low for a RR.

Offer him £14K - still nearly £4K profit (less a grand or so of parts). If the chassis and engine get a thumbs up from an independent inspection that is.

He wont go for it - I have an Audi A8 W12, he was going to take as payment- the cerb plus cash for my Audi A8. But I am not happy about the chassis - still if I had a cash deal on the A8 I would be going for this one:

If that car can hit 60 in first it must have the close ratio box, in which case it can't
hit 190 as the cr box won't let it go that fast.

that's nicks car. It has been for sale for a while, it was advertised before this current ad. It will have been at autodemon for ages now.
I have a red rose with the cr box plus a different diff. You soon get used to the ratios. 1st and second are great accelerators. I don't notice any difference with 3rd, 4th and 5th. But I haven't tried any top speed stuff in this cerb. I have done 185 leptons in the last one. Very interestig.
Anyway back to micks car..... Worth a look I'm sure!

sorry to hijack the thread but i don't quite understand the close ratio box, i thought with a close ratio box you would change gear sooner so would be well into second by the time you hit 60 if not looking for third, can anyone explain more? also how can you tell if the cars got a cr box or was it just the RR models?
