cant turn off ignition

Hi.
when i turn off ignition button the battery light stays on. if i turn on and off it will usually turn off. today it would not. everything else turned off just battery light stays on/ dimly. if left on it does flatern the battery. today after long run it would not turn off at all. had to disconnect battery . feels like a really not realising somewhere. any ideas?

Isnt there an ignition control unit in the boot or in the footwell? Try unplugging and re-plugging...?

It's in the boot, left hand side on top of the fuel tank on mine. Had something similar on mine a few times and unpluging the control unit for 30 seconds or so always fixed it.

I beleive a faulty diode pack on the alternator will also cause this, along with quickly draining the battery.

thanks for the replies. this prob now not top of list. cant get the clutch to work. guess that a master cylinder............
