Evening,

Just gone to fetch the multi changer cassette out of the boot and now it won't shut (deep joy)

The catch and badge bits are working fine or so they seem but it still won't shut. It''s almost as if the bit that attaches to the boot lid isn't quite long enough. Any bright ideas or is it a dealer visit tomorrow morning...

Cheers

Can you hear the solenoid motor operating when you press the boot badge?

back.....if you look at the catch on the boot lid itself you will see that there are 2 bolts that hold it in place. the catch has enlongated slots...so my guess is that you can loosen the 2 bolts (13mm ring spanner) and adjust accordinly....

If it's what happened to mine it's probably an easy fix.

There is a long rod connected from the boot switch to a spring on the latch, on mine the end of the spring snapped off. All I did was to take the latch out (difficult as it's a tight squeeze) and bend a new loop in the spring and re-attach).

This was 3 years ago now so my details may not be exact but the principle is the same If you do a search on this you'll probably find a description of the operation I'm sure I've posted it a couple of times now

I had a similiar problem with mine, and it turned out the entire latch mechanism had come away from the fibreglass. The bolts fixing it had worn into the fibreglass and were no longer big enough to support it Is your mechanism loose at all?

Topcats sorted mine for me, and now it works a treat.

Cheers folks, still can't get the bolts to shift so it's a quick trip to see someone who can...

Does the solenoid operation sound slightly different to normal? If so it's the linkage that needs attention.

Take the boot light out of its housing below the catch, it justs snaps in / out. You should be able to see the linkage. It's either snapped, or much more likely, just got itself twisted up.

Right, so what's happened so far...

I have determined that all bits work ok so I have gone back to Satmans suggestion...

One minor problem, the catch on the lid is already set to maximum length... bugger.

Oh well a spot of DIY is in order. Knowing my abilities I'll end up with a boot latch that works and a car that's in pieces!

have you tried making it latch onto a screw driver and release again whilst boot is opena nd you can see what gives.. mine got stuck open once and I had to free the solenoid off by hand

The same happened to me the catch had come away from the fibre-glass. I got in the boot with a torch while she who must be obayed closed the boot. If your in there you can see the catch flex when trying to engage. Jools done a cracking job of fixing it at the last service. In the mean time I had to push down on the boot lid while lifting the boot from the rear screen side, looks a bit strange after filling up but seemed to work.

Pair play, not sure I'd want to clamber in there, can't get the scene from Ocean's 11 out of my head, where the little guy gets in the money box thingy
