Haven't had the Cerb out for a couple of months, planning or rectifying that on the weekend. Thinking of removing the fuse for the fuel pump and turning the engine over to get some oil pressure before starting her up properly. Good idea??

Wouldn't do any harm, less stress that firing it straight us as there'll be little boundary lubrication as it will have mostly drained down.

A few cranks until the oil light goes out should do the trick.

Not a stupid idea at all. However there are two schools of thought as to wither or not to prime an engine in this manner.
I've found that it took an age of cranking to build up oil pressure in my race car without it firing. This may be causing more damage than fewer revolutions while firing. As such I follow Rod Millen's doctorine. Just fire it up.
If I've disconnected the oil cooler I'll prime it using an external pressure pot.

Yes this is really only a good idea if you take the plugs out enabling the engine to spin over quickly with little load on the starter and the shortest time to bring the pressure up.

Not a five min job on an AJP, so I'd go with a nicely charged battery and a dab of throttle, and catch it quickly !

Its a lot easier to renew a starter motor than rebuild an AJP,

Id pull the fuse if the cars not been run for a few months.

But if going to try and start it in this cold weather a warm blow heater under the engine bay would nt hurt for half an hour before hand to get the oil nice and warm, it helps if the oil gets round the engine quicker and easier

Opps, Chuggaboom is quite right - TAKE THE PLUGS OUT if you're going to do this, tales the 'load' off.

Do a compression test while you're at it, make it worthwhile. Don't forget a couple of drops of oil in the bores to lubricate, and make them 'wet'.biggrin
