Before i dive in half cocked with my monkey wrench i thought i'd better ask.

Does the gear knob unscrew, you see i need to get that
poor excuse of a gattor off and am going to replace it with a nice rubber concertina type which i have located that fits quite snug.

The gear knob should just twist off 'anti-clockwise'. It may be tight and you may need the use of some 'marigolds' to help you get a grip. Once the 'knob' has been twisted off then there should be a metal stem that will also need to be twisted off...

The collar that Satman is talking about acts as a locking ring, so you might find that it is quite tight on the underside of the gearknob

Always wear bright pink gloves whilst attempting this

If you hold on a bit, there's work being done on a nice alu' surround for the gaiter to hold it in place... the prototype design's looking great.

Search for gear knob boot in the search thingy. Olly fitted a nice Audi TT gaiter, looks well.
