Just had my 4.5 radiator re-cored at a local firm "Car Radiator Service" £100+Vat

They confirmed that the "core only" was an "Early Range Rover" part, but the ends were different. i.e if you bought a Range rover Rad, the ends/pipes will be different, but if you only wanted a new heat-eachange/core bit on your failed rad, you need to order a range rover core.

Taking the bugger out takes a while though. Now that this rad is out, I'll replace the air-con one as well since it got damaged when a large stone hit it which had already gone through the front number plate

I wonder if its worth investing in a bit of mesh grille for the front of the car, has anyone done this?

Been thinking of it for a while, have to be very discreet though, shouldn't be too difficult, once both rads are out.

I've been on the lookout for some suitable material, and this has jogged my goldfish like memory....ooh that's a nice bridge......

I've seen one somewhere recently with a mesh grill on the front. Dont know how much cool air it would stop in the summer.

Shouldn't affect it to much, the stuff I had in mind had holes about a centimetre square, fairly thin, but man enough to stop a large stone.

It would have to be mounted at the rear of the apertures, or it'd look like those strange ones on Chims, MHO of course!

Thanks Guys, if the stone was big enough to go straight throught the number plate leaving a clean 'bullet hole' I'm not too sure how much protection the mesh would offer. I think I was just unlucky that it was so big, yet lucky at the same time that it didn't fly up to the bonnet or even the windscreen!

PS Does anyone know what the Air-con Rad is out of ???
