Chim to Cerb... wise move??

How many of you guys have gone from a Chimaera to a Cerb? I'm thinking about doing it this Spring, just wanted some experiences....
Probably go for a 4.2.V8... maybe.. not sure.. spend maybe 20K... bit more if it makes sense...

Most probably this subject has been done to death so pointers to any good threads would be cool.

couple of good reasons

1. you can now fit 4
2. i think the handling is better with a hard top
3. street cred is massive!!
4. ive a 4.2 v8 1997 and love it to bits!

I swapped my Chim for the Cerb 4.5LW last October, two small kids fit in the back a treat so I get to use the car all weekend, but the main reason was wanting to use it all year round....it is just fab, 40 miles per day rain, snow, sun it doesn't matter. I loved my Chim but the cerb attracts way more attention and the performance just adds to the case to upgrade.

Did the swap just before Xmas to 98 4.2 V8. Had the 4.0 Chimaera for 3 years before that. Chim was a fantastic car, never let me down with no major problems (lambda sensor (sp?) and a clutch master cylinder leak). My reasons for swapping were I just wanted a Cerb. I've had some teething trouble with my Cerb but they are hopefully sorted. All I would say is you need to drive a Cerbera as they are very different from Chimaeras. Engine is chalk and cheese different. Handling - ride is more supple. So basically go drive a few and see if you like them (does anyone dislike a Cerbera?). Go on you know it makes sense

did the same move last September, 99 4.0 ltr Chimaera to a 02 4.2 Cerbera. Huge difference but be prepared for more fragility. When it's good it's real good; but at times it can be frustrating. It's the price that you have to pay. Be careful and buy well, mine has been on the back of a low-loader twice in the last 5 months, but Joolz has confirmed that is about par for the course. Accept that there will be problems, that you are purchasing a rare beast, and you will be fine.

I went from 4.0 Chimp to 4.2 Cerb a couple of years ago. Whilst i love the power and presence of the Cerb, i have regretted the decision on every sunny day. I also find that I dont use the Cerb anywhere near as much as I used the Chimp.

I would advise driving the Chimp on a hot sunny day, with the roof up to see if you can live with it.

Cerbera 'ruining cost' is >£3000 per year. If you are happy do it ASAP. There is no car like Cerbera below £150000.
