Well my diff went with a bang on friday afternoon, put my foot down and it just let go. I had this diff rebuilt back in July and have only done about 1000 miles on it. I had to wait 3 hours in the cold for the bloody AA, the car is now in their compound until monday when it is getting taken to Raceproved.
What are peoples views on uprating the diff to the Quaife job? Is it worth it?

cheers.

Well it should have lasted a little bit longer than 7 months, I'd be going backk to the guys who rebuilt it and complaining stongly. What oil did they use? My Indie told me never ever use anything but the specified oil, as any other spec will just 'kill' the diff. It should be Mobil SHC 80W 140 ID.

What are you doing to blow diffs?

What was the circumstances that this one went?

Mine gets a hell of a bashing with so many full throttle starts, axle tramp and wheel spins regularly, but those are my bad starts. :-)

It was the correct oil, purchased from Opie. I ran it in for 700 miles and then changed the oil again. I have a feeling it is the actual LSD unit that has gone, this wasn't changed during the rebuild.

Nothing stupid, i dont go round doing donuts all the time or hard starts. The first time the diff mount went, causing the diff to give up.
This time I was just accelerating out of a junction, nothing overly aggresive, just more bad luck on my part.

You need to find out what's wrong really, crown wheel bust, pinion, actual diff mechanism, etc.

Could well be incorrect preload on the CW+P and worn it out.

My Diff (Touch wood) does get donuts/Burnouts/drag raced/track day'd and so far has been great, for 3 years now. Something wrong or bad luck there i reckon.

I doubt it was rebuilt properly. Is it definitely the diff or could it be a drive shaft or UJ?

Its not driveshafts or UJs, with a friend in the car and me looking through the wheel I could clearly see the prop shaf turning the input shaft but no drive coming out of the diff.
I had it rebuilt at around £450 so I expected it to last just a little longer. It wasn't that easy to take out and replace with the car just on axle stands.
As I am living in Germany now I am going to have to pay to get it fixed.
But your right, I need to know what exactly has broken.

It could be that the shaft is broken diff end. Sounds more plausible as being this from what you said about pulling away from a junction.

Do these have the Salisbury diff similar to the Jaguar, if so they are good for 600+bhp. and shouldn't break.

It still shouldn't go, even with harsh abuse a clutch or driveshaft would go first.

The Quaife unit is a great improvement IMHO our old one just failed to be so limited after a while. The very scruffy blue Cerb at raceproved has one fitted. evilthumbup

Normally when you get a diff or a gearbox rebuilt you get a certain warranty with it. I would have thought most of these companies give about a year or 10,000 miles. Which diff do you have? Is it a hydratrak?

Yeah its the Hydratrak unit. Or was!
Bloody thing, It was supposed to be the wedding car for a friends wedding on saturday but we had to use my hire car instead ( Insignia )! Not really in the same league.
Well there could be two blue cerbs at Raceproved with a quaife in soon. I need to check prices.

Can fitting the unit be a bit of a nightmare or is it fairly straight forward? £800 is a lot of cash but maybe a worthwhile investment
