I don't think it would be too far from the truth to state that there are two trains of thought on the best thing to do with the Cerb air filters.
The original limp foam is a pretty sorry looking thing, yet replacing that involves two air filters that suck up hot air.
Has anybody got any further on a better quality replacement for the standard foam, without having to lose the ducting and sucking up the hot air from the engine compartment?
Obviously it's possible to build a nice expensive air box to go round the cone filters, but I was considering cannabilising one of the cones to create a square to fit in where the foam fits.
A good idea you think? I'm guessing it won't be as easy as cutting up a cone and sticking it in the waiting hole.
Don't suppose there is a replacement filter that is already the same size as the standard foam?
I don't mind having a fart around and posting my findings, but I have no scientific way of testing things and don't want to play around if it's already been investigated.

hmm, I was sort of wondering this..Is the TVR part based on one from another car? Would that other car have a performance filter option from piperx or k&n or someone?
lol I have just had a look on www.piperx.com in the hope that it would have some info... I seem to have blundered into some sort of ginger bagpipe nightmare..

Mr T,
You can search on the K&N website by required size. I don't have acces to my Cerb at the moment (at Austec getting 'fettled'), but I have the original air filter which gives an approx measurement of 510mm x 140mm. The closest panel filter which comes up is 514 x 157, (part no. 33-2591) not sure if that would fit.
If someone can be arsed to measure the actual box that the filter sits in, we can see if we can get a better idea of whether this would fit or not.
No idea if this size cotton filter would be suitable though, will it let enough air through??

Just been back to K&N site, that filter I found is for Porker 928's upto 5.0L, so I guess would be OK if it fits?

Right, how sad am I!!
'Green' also do one for 928, £50, stated size is 520 x 160. Part no. P918288 www.needforspeed.co.uk/green/index.htm
Enough of this, hope this info helps us in some way!!

I find you a regular bundle of joy and levity...
I think the problem is likely to be the depth of the filter, and not having my Cerb about me at the mo' it's a bit difficult to check.
A 5L 928 kicks out about 320bhp, so i'd assume the filter should be fine airflow wise.
Good work, Mr Williams, keep it up.
I looked into all this, even to the extent of getting someone with a k+n account to see if k+n would make a filter for me .. they wouldn't!
Doh!!
Green filters are great but there isn't one that fits
The cones do suck hot air, but only when the car is moving slowly or stopped, and then you aren't wanting full power anyway. Once on the move cold air is ducted through the original filter housing over the cones, and you lose more power through the restriction on the std filter than you ever do with the warm air that might be in the area of the cones anyway, rolling road tests show a std filter at it's 12k change interval can cost up to 12bhp over a cone filter.
I was going to gen Tim at ACT to make some carbon shrouds to enclose the cones .. if there's enough demand I'll give him the go-ahead ..?
answers on a postcard please ..

What about taking some scissors to an oversize filter and trimming it to fit?
Carbon shrouds would be good, but i'm assuming expensive?
