Contradictory to my last post on previous thread, after firing her up after fitting new battery and then going for a lovely 40 minute spin then parking her up, i return to the car a few hours later only to find?....deadness! Now the starter motor will not even turn , although i can still hear the other hums and noises.
I suspect a more serious electrical/starting problem than just battery so i'll be ringing Topcats for help and consolation tomorrow, but any ideas/similiar experiences out there?

Checked the Big Fuse?

Like Carl says, have you checked the big fuse for the alternator at the back of the engine bay? What rating was the battery... 600A+? Were there any other symptoms first... rev counter not working, other electrical gremlins? If it's not the fuse, it could be the alternator itself that's gone.

Edited to add: What about the battery warning light; is that coming on? (can't remember if that's ALWAYS on till the engine is started)

I would guess it would be an idea to test the new battery, or at least charge it & then try restarting. It could the new battery isn't receiving a charge, in which case, your 40 minute drive has just drained it as opposed to charging it.
Then with a fully charged battery, you could start looking for other reasons for your non starting predicament.
My latest one, being a dirty connection from solenoid to starter.

I now have the car back and in fine working order - god i have missed her!

Just for the record, it turned out to be the starter motor - it had literally come apart!

Greg...was you able to have the starter motor repaired or was it a case of a new one?
