Can't start II - the sequel
Discussion
Contradictory to my last post on previous thread, after firing her up after fitting new battery and then going for a lovely 40 minute spin then parking her up, i return to the car a few hours later only to find?....deadness! Now the starter motor will not even turn
, although i can still hear the other hums and noises.
I suspect a more serious electrical/starting problem than just battery
so i'll be ringing Topcats for help and consolation tomorrow, but any ideas/similiar experiences out there?

Like Carl says, have you checked the big fuse for the alternator at the back of the engine bay? What rating was the battery... 600A+? Were there any other symptoms first... rev counter not working, other electrical gremlins? If it's not the fuse, it could be the alternator itself that's gone.
Edited to add: What about the battery warning light; is that coming on? (can't remember if that's ALWAYS on till the engine is started)

I would guess it would be an idea to test the new battery, or at least charge it & then try restarting. It could the new battery isn't receiving a charge, in which case, your 40 minute drive has just drained it as opposed to charging it.
Then with a fully charged battery, you could start looking for other reasons for your non starting predicament.
My latest one, being a dirty connection from solenoid to starter.
