Driving home the other day, heard a small clunky noise coming from the rear nearside wheel. I pull over get out and check and all looks ok, so set off home again then bang! rear wheel locks up!

Get the car home, Pull the car in the garage and realise handbrake no longer works, so assume handrake cable snapped, so get the car in the air, and notice cable is intact but out connected to the rear hub.

So take the wheel off to have a look, remove the calliper and the disk, then a whole load of metal falls to the floor, closer inspection reveals a huge chunk of metal has fractured away and caused a lot of mischief inside the disk and hub.

Does anyone know what could have caused this and where I can get a new one. The hub itself looks ok, but the chassis upright (is that what its called?) is fooked.

There was a topic about a week ago talking about a TVR factory recall on the hubs, quite early on in the Cerbera production. I thought it was only the fronts, but might have been the rears also. Maybe your car missed this recall?

I can't understand how that has happened? Could somthing have become wedged in the wheel? Is the disc and caliper ok?

Am I right in thinking the crack seems to have propogated from a bolt hole?

Looking at the state of the shoes, which where a tangled mess, I think the handbrake shoe mechanism some how failed sending the shoes loose and causing mischief inside the hub. That is all I can think of. The calliper is fine, the disk has taken a damage to the internals (where the shoes normally make contact).

That is the hole where the handbrake cable enters the hub.

Adam - Tried sending you an email but I got a 'Permanent Failure' message !!

Here's what I sent....

"Hi Adam

I don't want to profit out of another Cerb owners misfortune, and want to help you out, but dont want to be out of pocket :-) - I got them a couple of years ago and can't remember exactly what I paid, they were used ones but I had them shot blasted and powder coated, and they have new poly bushes fitted and come with the Nylon washer thingy's. I dunno £100 and go halves on the postage??

Alan"

Is this a fair price everyone???

Don't know if its any help - renewed the rear hubs a couple of weeks ago
and they are bolted through the hand brake back plate, which is the part that seems to have failed and is seperate from the upright. What I did notice on mine was the corrosion between the back plate and upright when seperated. On my car (1998) the uprights are steel and the back plates alloy hence the corrosion.
