What speed would you consider safe for yourself in the cerb on a wet motorway?

There are too many factors involved to state what is the 'safe' speed to drive at. But a lightwieght car like the Cerb on wide tyres is never going to be brilliant in the wet, and with all that power readily available you have to treat it with respect. My heavy Saab 9000 on 17" 225's is amazingly sure footed in the wet and inspires confidence, whereas in the Cerb I'm always a bit on edge. Can be good fun though biggrin

Depends on how wet and what type of road surface, gave mine a blast recently on a wet road, (not neccessarily in the UK I hasten to add) toatlly secure at 70 ish X 2 but sure grip surface and dead straight with no standing water, drove the road first to check grip level then went again. Car needed it, much smoother after.

17" wheels and Toyo T1R tyres.

I don't think the actual speed you do in the wet matters, it is more to do with how fast you get there and how much power you put down in one go. As long as you feed the power in gradually and smoothly, you will have no problems in the wet. Start getting aggresive with the load pedal and it could all end in tears.

When driving at speed in a straight line in the wet you've really gotta have yours wits about you! In mine you've only gotta hit a bit of standing water and it's brown trousers time.

I had thought about getting a Tuscan having had the Cerb for a couple of years, even went to view a couple. Then I did some homework and it seems they have a tendancy to lose grip without warning (I believe one lost control coming back from TiTT3 in the rain, straight motorway, and he was only doing 60).So I decided to stick with the Cerb and spent some money having it set up last year when the shocks were replaced and now runs straight as an arrow even on bumpy, undulating country lane and to prove it the guy took his hands off the steering at 100 leptons! I think good setup is essential to keep facing forwards especially in the wet. I love my Cerb again now.
Cerbs will be getting rarer soon lads rolleyes

Oh dear, did not mean to upset you so much as to make you swear. I was not asking the question because I need advice on how fast to drive in wet weather!
I am a very good driver and I have the credentials to prove it. I enjoy driving the Cerb and owning it. I appreciate it for what it is so don`t worry `lads`!

But that was exactly the question you asked.... What question did you actually mean to ask?
I wouldnt post 'I am a very good driver...' - unless you are of course, but then why did you need to ask the original question?
Anyway - if you arent sure how fast to drive in the wet then slow down, drive 'gently', short shift...and youll be ok.

Calm down chaps - Some of you are getting a bit harsh to a fellow Cerb owner. I'm sure he was just asking for a general feeling on our opinions about driving in the wet.

To answer the original question, surley its a matter of common sense, if you claim to be a good driver you should be driving the Cerbera no fatser than you would drive any other car in bad conditions, but need to take extra care when hitting the power just over 3.5k in a lower gear and avoid heavy braking in the wet, particularly if not travelling in a straight line.

Exactly right but it seems you get flamed on here by some, I was just interested to know what speed people considered `safe` in the wet. Thanks for those who answered in the spirit of a discussion forum. THE END

Mine has felt pretty planted over the last few months on the wet. slippy and generally mucky roads we've been having.

I suspect I drive it as the same sort sort of speeds I drive normally I am just a little easier with with the controls, give myself a bigger margin than when the roads are properly dry.

I have had two non induced moments this year (so far) both of which were at low speed on very slippy roads and both which were collected with no damage (luck rather than driver skill I suspect wink) and in neither case was I doing anything at all silly.

The fact is that whatever you drive you should drive it in an appropriate manner for the conditions, thats all there is to it.

If you can't handle the car at the same speeds in the wet as you can in the dry, sell it. Buy one of these instead..
