Servicing by local garage?

Just a quick question really, was speaking to a friend in my road (who is a very good mechanic and works in a local garage) and he said he could service the Cerb easily enough as he has serviced lots of exotica in his time (355s etc..), so what are people's thoughts, Yes or No?

i service mine and there are others who do as well - if your mechanic is a good one theres no reason why not...there is no rocket science in a cerb. There are however things specific to a tvr/cerb that are worth knowing about before the work is done.

The service is easy..... Its all the bits you spot that are going wrong thats hard........ If you look after the car and do things as they come up theres no reason why a local guy couldnt do it.

The thing for me is that if you dont really know your cerbs then you wont notice stuff that needs attention cos you spot it from experience, you will also struggle to do things quite right if you dont have cerb experience? IMHO

I agree with Gazzab - The 'Servicing' is reltively straight forward. Anyone can change the oil and fit brake pads, but it's the experienced Indies that know exactly what to look for, and how to fix it properly.

Agreed - that is what I was aluding to in my earlier post. I get certain things looked at by my local indies...the latest on being the valve clearances. But, this is not an AJP specific item...guess it depends on how good your mechanic really is! Agree with the comments about indies knowing what to look for and how to spot them.

It isnt just about asking a garage to just do things that you want them to do. You want them to raise items with you that you cant see eg 'Do you know that it is common for a cerb of this era, with this 4.2 engine, to need fuel lines changed. They will be in a dangerous condition despite the fact that you cant see them'.
