Ignition leads on a 4.2

Right, just bought some new leads, when trying to fit I found that the longest of the new leads is 28" and the longest of the leads I am removing is 31"! I have positioned them the same way as the old ones, and whilst they just about fit, they are tight with no give. Am I doing something wrong or have I got the wrong ones?

I have the same problem. Got some ones from racetech direct and the pax side front plug is a real stretch. Seems to be ok though, been meaning to call them and ask if it's right though.....

Yeah, that's the one I was having issues with, just seems way too tight, in fact I've put the old leads back on for the moment which are magnecor ones, got the new ones from Racing green.

If it turns out to be that these new leads are the only length available, could you not relocate the coil pack? I know others have done this due to ease of access.

Didn't really want to get involved with moving the coil packs.

Does anyone know, if the 4.2 leads are longer or shorter than 4.5 leads? Just wondering if I possibly have been sent the wrong leads!

The 4.2 leads are all different lengths. The 4.5 leads are all the same length due to bing routed across the cam covers rather than around the back of them. So definatly sounds like you have 4.2 leads.

i have renewed leads on my 4.2 and they go under the inlet manifolds not around the back, bit of a pain but better than stretching them

Had the same problem,originals went round back of engine.Racetech advised that new leads should go over camcovers,and that it is the 4.5 that have them going round the back of the engine.

That makes sense, I'll have a look and reposition them that way, thanks for the info
