Doesnt anybody know what the altenator is off for a 98 4.2 cerb save me ringing everywhere tomorrow thanks already searched the equivalents thread

It's off a V8 land rover the 100 amp one.

My last alternator from ebay lasted less then 2 years before it went pop .....

when looking into alternators a few months back, the advice I followed was to get the original marnelli unit rebuilt. It cost about £130, but it is a very good quality unit.
The bargin ones out there from china have varing life spans, some as little as 6 months!

Thanks for advise chaps have already ordered one on line from the above link but i think i will get my old one refurbished now following above advise to keep as back up thanks again

I'm not sure which Land Rover the alternator is of, but these guys are cheap for LR parts

Ive just fitted an alternator to my Vectra Diesel and you know what, it looks to be the same one! There of course could be subtle differences but the pulley looks the same the mountings looks the same and its 100A also. Got mine for £10 from the scrappy, it may be worth investigating to see if it is actually the same one. Ive still got the old one hanging about someware ill have a look to see what its part no is.

Well quick update 4 hours to change the damn alternater it came with the wrong pulley so had to swap them over and that was a hell of a job why they are so tight i will never know. If any body else tries this simple job may i recommend you buy one of those long ariel type things with a magnet on the end
because every time you drop a bolt/nut/washer it is a real bd to get them out again thanks for the above advise it was a cheap chinese one that came so iam going to get tha marelli one reconditioned ready for when this cheap one goes pop

Just a slight thread deviation. I ordered a starter motor for my Hummer from them on friday. Didnt realise they were chinese copys. Can anyone recommend a good specialist for re-builds on starters and alternators. It seems to be a dying trade.

Unfortunatly im a long way from you but i use a local company in preston called Ribblesdale autos i think they will do it for you by post but im not sure i have a back up starter which i just get reconditioned each time they go
wrong i went through a phase of one a year for about 3 years but the one on the car now has been on about 4 years www.ribblesdaleauto.co.uk
