Accelerator cable replacement

How easy is it to do the above? Should it take long allowing for spanner throwing.

Not that difficult, but the cable loops behind the brake servo so a little fiddly. Some time lying in the foot well required, easiest to take the clutch reservoir cover off to see where the cable goes through the into the engine bay.

An hour should get you sorted.

The fiddly bit is in the footwell alright.

Oh, and if you are stuck then a brake cable off a bicycle will do the job for you (I have been using one for about 2 years now).

Is the throttle cable easy to adjust once replaced ?
Ordered a new one myself as i've had my throttle sticking lately, you know , slow to decelerate so wont pop and bang as much !

Have you tried spraying something like WD-40 down the tube that the accelerator cable passes through?

That may be all thats needed to free it up.

Worth a try.

Hmmm, I think it took me about 3 weeks. Had to take everything out, on the driver's side, from the rear seats forward - Doh !

As Ireland said, a brake cable off a mountain bike is what I have been using for over 18 months without any problems. Just fed it through the original throttle cable outer sleeve from engine bay and just used a small pinch bolt arrangement at throttle pedal end to keep the tension. You do need to be somewhat of a contortionist to do the pedal end though!

I never found Fubar's book

I should have said that I used the inner metal bit of a strip connector (the type you'd use to join a cable, AKA "chocky-block", etc) to secure the end of the cable in the footwell.

It's ideal for the job as you can loosen it it you need to adjust the cable any little bit.

If you leave the cable a couple of inches too long there's no need to cut it off, just cable tie it to the pedal shaft and put a bit of tape over it to prevent it ever snagging on anything.
