Does anyone know where I could find a set of 18" spiders other than through the dealer network? There was a set advertised in the classifieds recently but they've been sold.

Darren - Hope its going well with my old Rocket.

When I was looking, before deciding on the 16" spiders, I rang round the dealers (main & indies), many had 1 or 2 to sell. Also, James Birkby at MADS may be able to help - he had a number of sets a while back.

Get those 16" spiders on Ebay and you could also reclaim a chunk of your outlay. Unless you've worn out those SO2s

Cheers,
Michael

Michael,

Still a big niggley - hopefully summer and regular use will sort that out. The s02's are still good despite my best efforts. I heard you'd got yourself a Chimaera, I knew you wouldn't be able to stay away!

Darren.

Hey Darren -

TVR really should be a class 'A' drug! Only managed cold turkey for 3 months before succumbing to a cheeky little Chimaera. The house purchase is on hold so decided to blow some of the deposit!!

Still miss the Cerbera, even with its faults and open wallet syndrome. The Chimaera hasn’t got that spine tingling acceleration or popping & banging soundtrack, but its good fun in its own right - and the roof comes off!

If they ever do make a targa for the Cerbera, I may well return to the fold!

Cheers,
Michael

There was talk of a Targa recently. You don't really _need_ a house do you ?

Thanks. Have called though they might be a tad pricey for me! There was a set of 18's in the classifieds with new tyres for 800 quid previously and I'm struggling to get anywhere close to that (the ones you mentioned don't have tyres which add a good 600 quid to the cost!)

They have raised a couple more questions though:

1) Will 235x40 profile tyres rub on the front?
2) Will the 16" wheel centre caps fit 18" wheels?
3) How much do you reckon a set of 16's with tyres would be worth (immaculate, lots of tread).
4) Would silver alloys look best on a blue pearl Cerbie?

thanks!

1. Im told that you have to fit stops to the steering rack if you fit 18" wheels..(makes turning circle worse than it already is!)
2.Pass..no idea at all
3.There were a set of 17" wheels for sale in the classifieds a short while ago, same sort of condition as yours and i think they sold for £400
4. definately IMO

My Cerbie has had 18's on it previously and the turning circle is lousy, so I figure the restrictors are probably still fitted. Most people seems to have fitted 135's to the front (Tuscan's are 140) and I was wondering whether the extra 5 mil would make a big difference. There's a similar car in the back of sprint with darker alloys which looks mean but I figure silver alloys on a dark car should look better...

I've got 2 spare 18 inch spiders (front Tuscans) one in excellent mint condition without a tyre and another in bad condition with a very good SO2 (235/40/18). Let me know if you are interested ... romany.jon@virgin.net

1) Spacers should have been removed when old 18" spiders were taken off, as far as I'm aware. So you will need them refitting. Always thought the turning circle was crap on both 16" and 18" cars I tested. Can't believe the difference with the present (pocket) rocket - the Chimaera turns on a sixpence by comparison!

2)Yes - standard fit I believe. I got them from TVR Gear (aka TMS), so check with them. Might still have the original (naff) gold ones somewhere - I'll post them if I find them.

3) 300-400 I reckon (especially with those good S02s) -more on Ebay if its a mad day!

4)On Imperial Blue I think yes. I did try some Anthracite ones when I bought the ones you've got now- but I think they look better on darker cars or silver.

Cheers,
Michael

TVR currently recommend that you need 4 front Tuscan alloys (£140 retail each plus VAT) only (ie not two front and two back) to fit the older Cerbs.

Fit the alloys with 225/35ZR18s (Toyos £137.45 retail each plus VAT) on the front and 255/35ZR18s (Toyos £153.70 retail each plus VAT)on the back.

You need the bump stop kit (couple of quid), your existing centres (£7.70 each plus VAT) should fit (although if you are selling your old alloys, maybe the new owner would want them) and then the alu valves and caps to look nice. You'll also need to saw off a bit of the back hub (2-3mm ish?)

If my maths is correct, it should cost £1200 ish plus VAT buying new, but you'll get some discount off the tyres if you shop around. TVR don't have any new Tuscan alloys forsale at the moment - delivery 10-14 days time.

I've been offered loads of used Tuscan 18" alloys, but they are never round (which I guess is why they are for sale).

Your old alloys and tyres are worth £250-400 depending upon the condition of the tyres.

I've sold all my old alloys and tyres with the exception of a set of refurb'ed Cerbera 4.2 alloys if anybody is interested.

Good luck,

James

Paid a bit less than £800 for mine, with new tyres all round. Got the wheels 2nd hand from what was Team Proactive. As for the questions:

1. Most likely, YES. I got 40 profiles for both front & rear, but VERY quickly decided the 40s weren't any good for the front & switched those for 35s. I've left the rear wheels running 245x40 ZR18s, though.
2. I'd guess so, but I'm not sure. The badges should be the same size at the very least!
3. £400?
4. Nah, they'd look best on a classy Aston Martin. I'd go for silver over black on a blue Cerb every time.

Ok, tyres are 551 inc VAT and delivery when ordered online (anyone better that?). If new alloys cost £686 all in, then presumably a 2nd hand mint straight set is worth 400-450 ish?

Darren - I know it was a while ago, but this is what I found:

www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?f=6&h=&t=38588

Have you tried Central TVR (formerley Team Proactive) -they quoted the lowest by far?

Cheers,
Michael

CentralTVR are on 01384-571021. They don't have a website yet.

If they're Toyo T1S, looks like you are getting nearly 20% off the retail price for the tyres, which is good I think.
