speedo question

hi all
can anyone tell me why my 1997 4.2 speedo goes upto 180mph and yet ive seen several other 4.2s that go to 210mph ,did they fit whatever was to hand at the factory or are the owners changeing them or am i missing something

Original speedos all went to 180. When 4.5s came about then a 210 speedo was introduced and was eventually put in 4.2s too.

there's another tick mark after the 210, so it actually goes up to 220 mph

And of course there is more kudos attached to a 210mph speedo I can alway remember going round as a kid looking at speedos looking for the highest ones, and of course if it went to 210 mph then the car could do 210 mph
