After posting on Friday that I have silch wrong with trev over a 5 month period he's gone and done the dirty on me and sprung a leak. Detected some oil on the driveway on Sunday (tiny little spot). I'm pretty sure it's engine oil, well its the same as the stuff on the dipstick anyway. It's located about a 1/4 of the way between the front and rear tyres. tried to have a look in the engine bay but couldnt see hee haw! Felt around under where the drivers seat is (under the car) and felt a little bit of oil type stuff. He's goin in for his 12,000 mile service in APril. I've also checked the oil and there's still heeps left. Anyone got any ideas what it could be???

I only seem to get a spot of oil on the driveway when I leave him for about 4 days without moving as I checked it this morning and there was nothin???

Cheers,

Sure its oil and not clutch fluid?..check reservoir levels to be on the safe side...could also be a small leak from rear crankshaft seal, and also could be rear gearbox seal....other things that seem to leak more often is rocker gaskets and then the oil works it way down and drips of further under the car giving impression of leak further back...

how can i tell if it's clutch fluid??? is that similar to engine oil? are the seals you mention easy to repair? I put the engine oil from the dipstick on my finger and some from the underside of car on my other finger, they looked identical???? I'll check the cluth fluid reserviot tonight just to be safe.

Cheers!

rear crankshaft seal can only be done by removing gearbox IIRC..rear gearbox seal by removing propshaft...if your engine oil is 'clean' and your clutch fluid 'dirty' i suppose they could look identical..not completely sure, i had only mentioned clutch fluid, cos other threads regarding clutch type problems talk of the master cylinder being inside the bellhousing and therefore leaks out between engine and gearbox area... again not 100% sure....trouble with oil when its warm it tends to spread and run everywhere so pin pointing a leaky position can sometimes not be easy!

Happy to report trevs leak is something to do with a tpiece thingy where the oil pressure sensor is or takes its readings from???. Apparantly they have a habit of going. If you look up one of the big holes under the steel sheild bit under the car you can see it. Service in april so can leave it til then.

Phew!

Over and out.

Shit! almost forgot. I've got a warranty with WH. Does anyone know if this is covered??? I'm presuming here from my superb description you all know what I'm talking about! If someone else know the name of the part can they add it in.

cheers!

Should be. Not subject to wear and tear so I don't see why not.

Just had a similar snag with mine. Saw a bit of oil and coolant on the garage floor and really did fear the worst, cracked block etc etc. However, the local garage had a look at it today and discovered it was a breather pipe that had worked it's way loose. All tightened up and AOK. Touch wood.
