sidelights only working with dim and main beam

The last electrical gremlin I have to solve before I get my car MOT'd is the fact that when the sidelights are switched on nothing happens, however when the dipped beam is turned on the sidelights then come on. This has not always been the case, previously the sidelights worked as they should.

Has anyone got any idea as to what I should be looking at? The earths are all fine.

Have you had a look at the lighting control box in the boot? I'm not sure what you should be looking for, but I would pull it out, open it up, blow into it etc

Yeah I have looked at it, I have had to hard wire the dipped beam into it as the connecting wire had broken. Maybe this has somehow caused the fault. I will check it again.

O/T Where you in Sainsbury's Epsom last night? I have seen a silver cerb around Epsom a couple of times.

back on topic, does the dash light up on sidelights? If it does then you can rule out the switch.

I actually don't know I will check tonight. If the dash lights don't light up I will take the wires out the back of the switch and piss about with them in the hope that I can get the sidelights on that way. If so new switch! The whole car will be brand new at this rate!

As bought, mine had exactly the same symptom, after much head scratching I found the cause was the wires at the back of the dash rotary light switch had been swapped over, no idea why! Very odd.

Oh right, well I will check that the wires have not been damaged when I have been messing around with other things behind the dash!
