My Alarm Just Went Mental !!!

Took the Cerb out for an early evening spin.. All Good.

Parked and put the alarm on mainly 'cos it locks the doors and went inside. Don't use the alarm much as it normally lives in the garage.

Anyway, about 20 mins later the alarm starts making a (no joke) load screeching noise, going off but not sounding as it should. Had to start the car and drive it into the garage before the neighbours started throwing things !

Anyway - after plugging my ears, and few mins of arming / disarming the alarm - which did not shut it up by the way - I managed to whip the battery connection off while disarmed and it has shut up..

So now what !! Typical she is booked in for an MOT tomorrow moring ..

How do I reset the alarm, at least so that I can drive the car for the MOT.

I know someone on here will know...

I seem to recall holding down the key fob for 7 seconds "resets" it.

I also recall I had some issue with mine as the integral battery was on its way out - random noises mainly... not 100% sure, but could be something along those lines.

Mr Baker replaced it in the end...

If the alarm is just sounding for no real reason then there is a good chance, as mentioned, that the internal battery within the sounder has had it. I believe on some of the sounders (there is on mine) there is a key switch which does shut the sounder up, but you need the key. My one is the same style as the chrome one in the cubby hole. Trouble is that you can't get to the sounder with ought the aid of a jack.

PS the battery and sounder inards are injected with a silicon type goo, so not easy to replace if this is the problem.

Exactly the same symptoms as when my alarm failed. Mr Baker told me how to disconnect it, but you've then got the pleasure of waiting for the internal battery on the alarm to run down. I got mine replaced by Carl.

I believe it can also be a sign of the siren unit being near the end.
