Help my Spider alloys dont fit

Hi after nearly 2 years of Cerb ownership i decided to up grade my 16 inch oz alloys to 18 inch spider alloys.

and after a long search i managed to get hold of 4 fronts with next to new toyo tyres on. and boy do they look good

So yeasterday i jacked up a rear corner and tryed to fit them, only to find the flange centre on the brake hub is bigger than the cut out in the inside of the spider alloys by about 5 mm

this is the size of the hub flange about 75mm



and this is the insdie of the spider alloy about 70 mm

as you can see from the pics the new spiders are 5 mm smaller on the inside and will not fit over the brake disk centre, my car is Feb 97 built.

How can i get round this, have i bought the wrong type of spider alloys or are the hubs and brake disks on later cars have a smaller dimameter hub on them ?

Or do i need to get some wheel spaces, is so what size do i need and will the studs still be long enough to get the wheel nuts on and be safe ?

I thought the rears sometimes needed the thread of the driveshaft cutting down due to the length?

Might be worth looking into that as I've not heard of the centre bore being different on spiders.

I'd recheck those measurements they look ok to me! If so theres something else stopping them fitting!

yes your right it does look ok on the first pic of the hub but im quite sure its 75mm across and the space on the inside of my 16 " oz alloys is 75mm. but the space on the spiders is only 70mm.

Ive found an alloy wheel firm not far from me , im going to call in and see if they can machine them to fit, cause i dont really fancy going down the spacer route

Looking at them again, if anything the hub is smaller than the wheel centre bore so it's definately the thread on the stub axle causing your issues.

A Wheel company are unlikely to sort it if the centrebore is too small, you'll need someone with a very big lathe or a mill.

I had an issue with my back wheels not fitting and it was as ridds is saying, the stub axles were too long. I was told that cars not originally fitted with spiders had longer stub axles and all they did at the factory was cut the end off. Try taking the center caps out and see if the wheels fit.

I run spigot rings on my 16" Spiders (Griff).
I doo seem to remember that the spigot rings didn't fit into 18" when I tried them, maybe there is a slight bore difference, but then again I cannot see that happening...

Thank s for that bit of info guys , you might be right about the stub axle lenght, i must admit i was in a bit of a rush when trying to fit them, i ll try again tomorrow with the centre caps out so i can see better what the problem is

when I bought my cerb the centre caps were RTV'd on due to axle length. In the end I took the plunge and chopped off the end of the axles.

BTW, where can I get some new centre caps from. Can't remember where I got the last set.

I'm pretty sure you'll find that there is a spiggot ring from out of the wheel stuck on the hub. Use a screwdriver to prise it off and you'll be away!

I had the same problem my my 96 Cerb. Ironically I bought a second set set of OZ 16" wheels which I wanted to have powder coated as my track day wheels, I found the flange centres of the second set of wheels smaller than the original set! I think the later Cerbs had smaller flages, I think the second set of wheels was from a Speed 6 Cerb. Fortunately the company that did the refinishing had a big lathe so they were able to machine an undercut in my rims to accommodate. Speak to a few such companies, I'm sure they can help you.

Well it looks like Full SP has nailed it,

I woke up this morn and decided to fit my new pro tech coil overs instead of the spiders and while i was doing the rears i found the spiggot ring was indeed stuck to the brake hub and not inside the wheel, its the same on both rears, so its looking good now, and that sinking feeling i had has gone
